Giggity Giggity Goo! - Glen Quagmire

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I actually loved it till about 3 quarters of the way thru, then the end was so hard to swallow. This is why I gave it a 7 rather than a 9 or even 10. I just love watching these actors do there thing, except for Evashe's to much of an exotic beauty to be believable. She should be a model instead.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Top 5 reasons this movie was a joke
1.His girlfriend went back to her mother's house KNOWING that her life was on the line
2.she told his friend where they were staying at, but acted like she didn't know how the killers found out where they were and didn't tell Joaduin Phoenix about it, which her telling led to his father getting killed, but left him because he didn't talk about being a cop with her?????
3.Joaquin Phoenix tells the drug lord to get on hi knees, but gives his gun to another cop and walk away???? That wasn't that cop's gun! It was his fathers!
4.Mark Walberg goes to adminstrative position without talking it over with his brother.embarrassing
5.The cops let Joaquin Phoenix walk into that crackhouse with that lighter AND those matches!!!!!!! Tragic!
Just my two cents

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

This cast was so misleading

Robert Duvall, Joaquin, Walhberg and Mendes??
I was expecting the next Departed or Training Day.

Instead you get a stupid morality play with comic book gangsters, the good cop/bad cop routine, (oh I've never seen that before) and the cheesiest finishing line known to man.

"Hey Bobby, *beep* YOU!" Lol wtf?

There were some genuinely enjoyable and intense scenes, eg: The Crackhouse Shootout, the Police Raid, arguement in the Hotel; they were quite solid.
But yeah I have to go with general consensus on this, the writing sucked, absolutely sucked.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Um, you are on some sort of intoxicating substance.

1) You have no idea how people really are. Some people are JUST THAT STUPID. Or, they think the cops can't protect them anyway, so what's the point? Or they don't think the danger is real. I suppose you've never seen the UMPTEEN THOUSAND movies/TV shows/books/comics/whatever where this EXACT THING happens.

2) See above. She left him because she JUST SAW SOMEONE KILLED because they were cops and DIDN"T WANT TO SEE HIM DIE. Again, learn something about human nature.

3) That was symbolic. He was telling the man who said "We should bring the hammer down" to go ahead - here's my father's gun, do it. It was symbolic. Symbolism. Symbolic. A symbol of his growth. Oh, it was SYMBOLIC.

4) Yes, I never do ANYTHING without talking it over with my brothers. Oh wait, no, the other thing. I do all KINDS of things without talking it over with my brothers. Or my sisters. Or my mom. Sometimes, even my wife. Eventually I would talk to them, if I feel it is necessary, but please, he was waiting to tell him after the ceremony so he wouldn't lay it on him and ruin his day.

5) Yes, tragic. You know, I used to smoke. I always had a lighter or two, and some matches. Sometimes, I would even have TWO books of matches - because I would give them to people instead of wasting lighter fluid. If anything, that was an indication of the paranoia at work in the drug dealer's mind and the fear of Bobby not coming up with a plausible excuse. That scene was perfect.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Nice job, gungan. Many people on this thread are clearly far too immature for this movie.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I thought it was a plausible and competently done movie but I didn't care much for the writing . Kind of predictable. The acting was above par though. Very good performances.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I'm with you Hated the movie, boring and didn't believe it at all

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Putting drugs on clothes was something that's happened, that's why it's in the movie, the director didn't make this stuff up, it's more believable than people like to pretend.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

deliciousfeet is wrong. i remember five or six years ago reading
about a drug smuggling ring that was broken up when kids were found
bringing cocaine into the u.s. on their clothing in suitcases. CNN
and other news outlets covered the story at the time. this was a
technique they used. you can hate the movie (i didn't, i thought it
was great) but the moviemakers did get that right.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Do YOU know what a director does? Apparently not. The Director is IN CHARGE of the movie - with the exception of the producers, he is the highest authority on the film, and can craft the entire thing from the placement of flowers in a restaurant to the number of cars on a busy street in a conversation scene to the number of bullets shot in an action scene, etc.

They have EVERYTHING to do with how the story is developed, and many of them rewrite scenes on the spot and work with actors to rewrite dialogue on the spot, and sometimes drop a scene during shooting because they don't feel it tells the story.

You, sir, are not only naive, are gleefully ignorant.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I thought it was terrible myself. It was amazing to watch the transformation from being a dude on the streets to being a cop without even going to the police academy yet. The best part was the first three minutes with Eva.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Thank god there are some sane people left on IMDB.

I cant comprehend how this god awful movie got a 7.2 rating. The story was beyond moronic, unrealistic and horribly written. Whats even more maddening is the waste of talent, that if utilized properly and backed up with an even servicable script, could have turned a halfway decent story into a great one.

Outside of a cameo from Ed Koch as mayor, this movie was about as true to real life as a Wile E. Coyete cartoon is to surviving an explosion.

The sable coke angle was absurd ( for the late 80's), the fact that the case didnt immediately go federal was absurd especially once cops were being picked off and considering there was a wholesale international drug operation, the fact that Eva Mendes and her mom weren't killed on the spot once Phoenix flipped was also absurd, the fact the russian broke out of being transfered to the hospital with complained chest pains was absurd, the list goes on and on and on.

Outside of watching Eva Mendes get fingered for the first 2 minutes of the movie, watching this garbage was a total waste of time.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

This is why I recommended people watch the special features before they come on here complaining. Putting drugs on clothes happened, that's fact, because you've never heard of it is proof of what you don't know, not proof that it never happened. If I was one of those people who said things like 'duh' I'd be going wild right about now. Calling me naive because I rightfully said a lot that was portrayed in this film is realistic, you assume that I would say that about any film. In this example, as any other to which you jump to that conclusion, is way off. The director did his research and based some characters and specific occurences and scenes on actual events, I learned that from the commentary. Just because your mind is too narrow to not accept facts just because you've never heard them before, don't make the assumption that everyone else is so feeble.

"the director merely instructs the actors on how to deliver their scenes.they have NOTHING to do with how the story is developed."

This is too asinine to even comment on, and if you even payed enough attention to watch the credits, you'd know the director is the writer.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

i agree horrible movie way too sloooooooow not enough of mark wahlberg in it .a very lazy movie. i want my $15.50 aus back

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I was disappointed, but I would still recommend it. I don't really remember it being hard to follow, but it has been awhile since I last saw it. My problem with it was that it was not very believable, mainly in Phoenix's character's decisions.

*beep* retro anything. *beep* your tattoos. *beep* all you junkies and *beep* your short memory.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Such a terrible movie! Slow, dull, put me to sleep! How can fine actors be wasted like this? It took me half a day to finish, I had to get up and do something else so I literally would not fall asleep!

Comparing this to the Godfather should be a felony!

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

The characters were poorly contradicting themselves throughout the entire movie. The drug dealers were smart enough to find Phoenix's character when he was out of hiding for 2 hours, but they were dumb enough to take the chief of police's son to a house full of drugs without so much as a background check? Oh yeah, he doesn't have the same last name as the police chief, so he must be OK. Also, you don't usually find the number one top guy (random bad guy) hanging around a house full of the product he is responsible for supplying. Also, didn't he JUST get finished being harassed and singled out by the police at the club? How can you possibly think that this is worthy of defending?

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I thought the movie was average.

I liked Joaquin's character.
The drug busts and the scene with the escort to the hotel were good.

I didn't like the first 15 minutes. Especially Amada fingering herself. I almost left the living room.
The music and clothes were not relavant to 1988.

I've seen better and worse, so that's why this one is average.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

The movie was crap

the plot was predictable, their was no real cliffhanger, you knoew what was gonna happen. acting was average, dont think Joaquin was suitable to play the main character, mark wahlberg wasnt in it as much to really notice his acting ability. Eva mendes was okay but Robert Duvall was the stand out.

i felt it was like a rip off of the departed, so it was gonna be crap to begin with. it just lacked substance big time.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Being unpredictable does not a good film make. This film was meant to be predictable, that's the entire point of the storyif you missed that than you can't really contribute a worthy argument.

"Why would a banana grab another banana? Those are the kinds of questions I don't want to answer."

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I thought the movie was enjoyable. The actors did a pretty good job. The directing was ok. What lacked in this movie was the script.

It would be believable for the Russians to not know who Bobby's family was; except for the fact that Bobby went to see them non stop.

Also, since every cop knew who Bobby was, how did that not get around. All it would take would be one "Hey Grusinsky" in front of the wrong person, and his cover is blown.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I'm with you all the way. This was a plodding, lame, amateurish jumble of corny cliches and unlikely plot elements. Couldn't wait for it to be over.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I agree it was lackluster, script and performances alike. It seemed to be such a dissappointment to me because I had actually anticipated grabbing it when it first came out on DVD at the local rental store, and the actors all normally give great performancesnot this time. Pity.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

you all must have seen a different movie. I loved it.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I agree. I gave it 4 max. Bad script, fair actors, terrible and boring directing. I dont know why this film has7 of 10 in imdb. Who casts good vots for it? Teenagers? Maybe Eva Mendez fans - that I can understand, but no other explenation

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

It was very slow and there was little drawing me through the storyline. When you have to just sit there and take it, and you notice that you are doing it, that's not the sign of a good movie.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I agree with you. I give it 3 out of 5 stars. I only wanted to see the movie because of the great cast but something was defiantly lacking in the script. The tired a$$ one-liners got on my nerves. And does Eva every play any role besides wife/girlfriend/hoodrat????

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I enjoyed this movie, didn't find it hard to follow and it wasn't so slow.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Yeah, I thought this film was pretty boring. It had a bad script, it was really predictable and the stars didn't really have a chance to shine, otherwise that would've saved the movie.

All in all, it didn't deserve such a high rating on IMDB.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

how in the *beep* can you compare this movie to the Godfather?I mean seriously did you even watch this movie it was subpar at best

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Saw this with a bunch of mates who all enjoyed it. Total rubbish, i want my money back and compensation for the time i wasted watching it, i have reasons but can't be bothered to elaborate it just sucked.!.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Hmm . . .no, not with you on this one. I gave it an 8 out of 10. I had no problem following it. Yes, it's not an action film, so it's not paced like one. I had no problem buying the characters and their actions in this particular, fictional world.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Yeah, I didn't have a problem following this movie either. I don't think anyone over the age of 12 would have trouble following the plot, so I'm not too proud of myself on this one.

Crime fiction like this can be ruined by just a few idiotic slips in the plot and this one was chock full of holes.

Just for an example, if you are getting ready to make a drug bust that is so huge that it guarantees the bad guys total dominion over New York City's drug trade, wouldn't you have someone covering the BACK of the building where the drug bust is going down? Would it be too much to hope for some helicopter backup, or is NY all out of helicopters?

This movie was an insult to the audience. How dumb do these people think their audience is?

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

That wasn't going to be a drug bust. Bobby was going in to gather information. Backup was for his protection only.

"a malcontent who knows how to spell"

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I didn't hate it, BUT I was disappointed with it. I thought it should have been so much more. The movie went in a different direction then I was expecting and it really failed to totally reel me in. It was average, nothing more, nothing less.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?/Eastern Promises

I'm with you! I thought the whole thing was draggy. When I started watching the movie, I thought "ooh, all these big-name actors!" And when I was finished I thought the whole premise was flat. Duvall, Marky-Mark and Phoenix didn't look like they were related, much less act like it. If you want to see a GOOD Russian Mafia type movie, get Eastern Promises with Viggo Mortensen. Now that is a A+ movie!

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Come on, I mean this movie had two of the best scenes ever, the first 3 minutes and Mark Whalberg getting shot in the face! Apart from that, the movie was woffle.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

i thought it was ok..i mean its not what i was expecting i guess but im a fan of wahlberg and phoenix. i gave it a 6/10

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Wow, what's up with this thread? I too, watched "Gone Baby Gone" before this one. lol. I guess maybe b/c they came to video the same time and people rented them together.

I liked both these movies a lot, but I would give the edge to "We Own The Night". When that russian dude pulled the bug out of the lighter that had me cringing; I didn't think he'd find it. That was pretty scary.

You mean you're not gonna beg again? Cause you do it so well! Hard Candy

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I liked this movie better than Gone Baby Gone as well. I found that ending very unsatisfying, the ending here was perfect in it's implications and tone. And that drug den scene remains the tensest scene I've seen in a long time.

"Why would a banana grab another banana? Those are the kinds of questions I don't want to answer."

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I found this movie pretty good

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Well, it could be because they liked the script.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

Maybe I was expecting too much from this movie but I must say that I was disappointed, too.

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I enjoyed it. It was a classic tale of deciding between good and evil and that although evil may have its rewards (lots of money, parties, girls etc.) in the end, one's OWN family is more important. Good crime dramaI personally liked it a HELL of a lot more than The Departed. (Okay fellow IMDBers, you may now commence flaming at me for my last sentence)

Who was the ad wizard who came up with this one?

Re: terrible movie. who's with me?

I agree with raindog517. I liked this movie better than The Dparted and WAY better than the aweful Gone Baby Gone. Some say We Own the Night b/c it was "unreaistic"??? The director went out of his way to make the movie realistic (like the style of the raid in the club and a CI becoming a cop (yes, it happens) and incude things that have really happened in undercover cases (stabing a drug dealer in the neck and jumping out the window when the UC gets burned).

Best cop movie since Narc or Heat.
