Twin Peaks : Recommendations
Re: Recommendations
For shows with similar feel as TP I would highly recommend Carnivale http://www.imdb.com/board/10319969/combined and Les Revenants (the French original to the Returned http://www.imdb.com/board/12521668/combined).
Re: Recommendations
Fargo is phenomenal imo.
Re: Recommendations
"Gracepoint" is basically "Twin Peaks" ripped off. It was based on a European show. I actually never watched the final few episodes; have to get on that.
Same thing can be said about "The Killing", also based on a European show. You could draw dozens of parallels with how that show ripped off "TP". It's almost funny how obvious it is.
"Hidden Palms" was also pretty similar, a murder mystery, but I don't believe it's available on DVD or online. Too bad for me because I also neglected to watch the final few episodes of it.
Then you have both shows named "American Gothic" which share similarities to "TP". The Sam Raimi-produced show from 1995 has a small town with some mysterious supernatural goings on. Then the ABC show "American Gothic" from last year was a murder mystery limited series not bad but not that great either.
You might also want to check out "The Heart, She Holler" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. It doesn't have too many overt similarities, but I think it's pretty clear the creators are fans, because the series finale appears to ape the "Peaks" finale in that it mostly abandons any of the previous plot and just has some of the characters appearing and disappearing in a room while a Jimmy Carter speech from the '70s plays.

Re: Recommendations
Great recommendations. I would also add Bergman's The Seventh Seal, but most importantly Polanski's The Tenant.

The Kingdom (Riget) by Lars von Trier http://www.imdb.com/board/10108906/
Top of the Lake by Jane Campion http://www.imdb.com/board/12103085/
Riget is spectacular. Top of the lake is good too and makes several intentional allusions to Twin Peaks.

Re: Recommendations
You should try 'The Singing Ringing Tree'.I believe Lynch took ideas from this. Think it can be found on YouTube.
Re: Recommendations
Shane Curruth's films are very imaginative and cryptic. It's certainly fascinating to see something original and creative from a new filmmaker.
