Is this #1 because women like this more than godfather etc? In godfather its more action and fun for male audience I guess. But this movie is like some chick flick but guys like it too and therefore its ranked #1.

But if youre a guy you probably think Godfather is better like me?

No, "Shawshank" is simply a better movie. Of the almost 2 Million votes on IMDb men actually rate 'Shawshank" higher than women do, but it is close.

I wouldn't make assumptions there. I can't speak for all women but I'm a woman who has rated both movies a 10 on here and holds them both in equally high regard so being a woman has nothing to do with taste in movies. I'm sure you'd find a lot of women that like the Godfather more and a lot of men who like Shawshank more so generalising both movies/sexes seems unnecessary.
