The Believer : Many Israel's hate religious Jews

Just go to Tel Aviv and you'll see.

They don't hate religious Jews as a whole, they hate the ultra-orthodox who feed off the land and it's government while giving nothing back such as mandatory time in the army.

I know. Many people do not know this. I also know there are almost no temples in Tel Aviv and almost no kosher restaurants. That is stunning for a non Jew to know. Tel Aviv is a very secular city.

To me, this is like your average non religious American hating all Christians and blaming them for the mess this country is in. That is bizarre, but that's what Israel feels like to me.

I forget who said it, but some politician in the Yishuv once said of the escalation of Arab-Jewish violence that "If the Arabs really wanted to destroy us, they would lay down their arms and watch us destroy ourselves." I wonder how much the divisions in Israeli society prevent peace from being achieved. For instance, suppose Israel commited itself to a viable two state solution and end of the occupation, which is basically necessary for its long term survival, would this have the side effect of producing an Israeli civil war? If that ever happens, Ill just say I really hope Tel Aviv wins, Jerusalem has some scary hoods

Maybe they just want their homes back?

I guess the 11 million ethnic Germans, 4 million ethnic Poles, 2 million ethnic Hungarians displaced after WW2 might want their homes back too. But they were all resettled somewhere else and don't care now

The jews are not being persecuted anymore. They can go and live in any country they want and they will be welcomed.

I think the Jewish people like to be hated. It is part of their nature. If there was not a Hitler I am sure they would have made him up.

I think Saudi Arabia is the only one but then again most muslims would not want to live there. Not under the current regime.

If the documentary i saw was accurate theyre totally nuts. They dont work, and they consider 'education' to be reading nothing but the torah. (ultra orthodox jews) They throw rocks at girls who are walking on the same side of the street as males, or call them whores. Girls who are like 8 years old. Its like theyre trying to prove that Hitler was right afterall.

But yeah, every religion has its dangerous fanatic zealots. All religions of the Book are a curse in my view anyway.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

Especially Ultraorthodox who can be extremely sexist.

But the way Israeli culture has gone culturally is depressing it's become trashy

I used to believe so to (havent had a chance at visiting Israel yet). But I also see the fundamental right ruling Israel with a huge majority for quite a while now and I think this idea that in reality Israel is secular country with a lot of liberal views is dying a slow and painfull death.
