What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

An average of 17 people in the U.S. die every day while waiting for a transplant. More than 100,000 are on a waiting list. After decades of experimenting with alternatives, many doctors now see potential in replacing failing human organs with genetically modified pig organs, CNN reports.

Xenotransplantation, or cross-species organ transplantation, is still in the early stages. Although no human clinical trials are taking place that have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, researchers behind a study published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation say their findings might bring human trials even closer.

Pig organs are anatomically similar to human organs and pigs come in all sizes. Furthermore, pigs have large litters and are easy to breed. Since millions of pigs are slaughtered annually for human consumption, there could be no ethical objection to using pigs' organs for treating human disease.

Would it bother you to have a pig's organ inside you?

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Sad!! Pigs are smart and remind me of dogs.

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Absolutely right! They're even smarter than dogs.

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Are you questioning the use of their organs in lieu of viable human organs, or the seemingly cruel idea of valuing our lives above theirs?

They're mostly bred for eating, so I fail to see why we would be concerned about the latter.

I quoted this in the OP:

I'm asking whatever your thoughts are about any of it. Anything goes, as long as it's related to pigs and/or organ donation.

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

I have no problem with it. I think the idea of us scavenging the parts of other animals to save ourselves from death is extremely clever, but it's also sinister and feels unnatural. It maybe opens the door to something even worse.

However, that said, if the life of a loved one could only be saved this way, I'd be grateful for them being saved.

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

I know someone that had surgery on their heart as a child and it involved pig skin. It's the closest thing to humans

👋

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

If you were to die unless you had a heart transplant but the only one available was from a gay man, would you accept it?

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Fuck no. I'd never accept a man's heart faggit or not.

👋

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

I don’t even know if women can have men’s organs and vice versa 😂

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

I'm not sure tbh. Don't both parents get tested when a child is looking for a doner?

👋

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Infact, I wouldn't want a transplant at all because organs hold their doner's memories.

👋

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

I especially wouldn’t want a cornea transplant 🤢

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

I can see how transplants are there to help others, but ultimately they're just living on borrowed time 😔 There's too many complications, and I wouldn't wanna be dependent on medication for the rest of my life to stop rejection.

I'm already planning on how to hoard a **** ton of gluten free stuff incase a war breaks out. Keeps me up at night knowing that there may be a shortage of gf food.

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Yes for me it’s the idea of medication for life so that your body doesn’t reject the transplant. I think it would be stressful knowing that the new organ could be rejected at any time and then you are straight back to where you started. So it was all for nothing

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

Would you take a pig organ to save your life or want a family member to do it if they were dying?

Are you sure? You say that with confidence but in good health.

You would rather your family die? Like if you had a kid that was dying that you could save you would let them die?

If the pig had died in natural circumstances rather than being slaughtered for the purpose then perhaps but otherwise mama will die 😵

Re: What do you think about pigs being bred as organ donors for humans?

What about your nipples? Would you agree to agree to a pig teat being sewn on?

It wouldn't bother me at all. I think that's a great idea.
