Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

They certainly schedule way ahead. Does TCM edit movies for content, and does it show them in widescreen or fullscreen?

They certainly schedule way ahead.

I know, it's crazy. But they don't show Underground as much anymore. It used to be on every Friday.

They do Full Screen. I'm not sure about the editing for content though. I've never watched a film on TCM, then on DVD to compare before.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll have to find a friend with cable to find out if the film is cut!

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

finally, I cant wait to see this.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

TCM usually doesn't edit film's for content as far as I know and they usually try to show their films in the best possible transfers that they can find (They showed "The World's Greatest Sinner" a few months ago and their transfer was absolutely pristine; have no idea where they got it because it took me years to track down a shoddy bootleg of it).

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

That's great to hear. Obviously TCM takes care to obtain a quality print, which must be difficult with obscure titles like "The World's Greatest Sinner." I assume TCM does include commercial interruptions, right?

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Nope, no commercial interruptions either. Their "TCM Underground" series is a great, if mild, return to bizarro late night television programs of the 80's and 90's (Commander USA, Night Flight, USA Up All Night, etc). They showed "Sonny Boy" tonight (unfortunately from an old VHS print).

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Wow, "Sonny Boy"? That's phenomenal! I wonder how TCM profits if they don't include commercials.

Do you remember "J-Men Forever," which USA's "Night Flight" would show frequently in the early '80s? It used old black and white movie/newsreel footage, and dubbed in new dialogue about the invasion of rock 'n' roll. I'd love to see that again:

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Looking forward to it! Great flick!

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

in less than 2 weeks!!! finally

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Bad news everyone: the TCM airing has been canceled.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Yeah, I was just checking the channel guide and didnt see it listed anywhere on TCM or any other channel. What gives?

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Its listed in my Satellite Direct as airing on April 4th at 1am.

I guess I'll have to wait & find out.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

After months of buildup, they yank it?

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

First it was strange that they scheduled it so far in advance, now it's even more bizarre that they yank it. I'd hate to think it's in response to school killings. Honestly, if you see this film, you realize that this is an important anti-conformist statement.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

I also saw this at a drive-in in the late '70s. I remember the scene where the kid with the hearing aid dies really freaking me out. A few years ago, I saw it on the big screen as the midnight movie. I also live near a video store that actually has a VHS copy. So I've been lucky enough to see this on two big screens and to rent it.

As for e-mailing TCM, I doubt they'd explain why they decided to pull it. You'll probably just get a "Your concerns are very important to us" response.

Can you actually buy the DVD? I thought that was held up.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Ted Turner got me all worked up for this orgasmic grindhouse journey, now he's just left me cold, with bluer balls than a smurf community. For this I shall blame Ted for all the wrongs in the world.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

I found an answer as to why it was cancelled. I was curious, since I haven't seen this movie in awhile, and have been looking forward to it for months now.

It seems whoever owns it (and another movie, "Audrey Rose", that they were scheduled to play) for whatever reason pulled the rights for TCM to play it. This wasn't a decision due to content or anything else, but simply a copyright issue.

Hopefully they'll get that worked out and reschedule it in the future.

Re: On TCM April 3, 2009!!!

Just as I thought. The DVD rights to this film has been bounced around constantly, and TCM has had to pull other films from their schedule lately (including Mickey One, which I was also looking forward to), so this was inevitable.
There's actually a connection to the movie which TCM did wind up playing. ALL NIGHT LONG starred Patrick MacGoohan, whose last film was Rene Daalder's Hysteria. That's another excellent film which has yet to see a proper DVD release due to rights problem. It plays once in a while on Canadian TV, and it's a fascinating psychological SF film that's like a more poetic version of Cronenberg's best films.
