Lone Survivor : Why the Mixed Uniforms?

Why the Mixed Uniforms?

Just wondering why in the film (Not sure if happened in real life) Luttrell was wearing a Woodland jacket and khaki pants, opposed to Murphy wearing full 3 colour desert uniform?
Is that supposed to be a camouflage technique or something?

Re: Why the Mixed Uniforms?

Have a look at what the Afghans wear. Modified Grooming Standards and Modified Uniform Standards are intended to support integration with the local friendly fighters.

Re: Why the Mixed Uniforms?

You aren't even a good troll. And you have never been to Miramar. Who refers to anyone as a 'general officer' in the US military? Or says 'whist' for that matter? Or watches British Soap Operas?

I would and have as I have served in the U.S. military (USMC).

Officer ranks in the U.S. military are divided into three grades:

Company Grade
2nd Lieutenant
1st Lieutenant
Captain

Field Grade
Major
Lieutenant Colonel
Colonel

General Grade
Brigadier General
Major General
Lieutenant General
General

Referring to an officer as a "General Officer" is simply saying that the officer was one of the General Grade ranks, since all of them have "General" in their title. There is nothing odd in using the term "General Officer" in that context.

Re: Why the Mixed Uniforms?

In his book Luttrell mentioned wearing a woodland 'blouse' and desert camo pants. This was done intentionally to blend with the terrain, which was a combination of shale rock and forest.

I'm the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy!

Re: Why the Mixed Uniforms?

Why would he be the only one wearing it? Shouldn't the others try to blend it also?

Brian Kinney & Justin Taylor

Re: Why the Mixed Uniforms?

They were all in mixed mashed uniforms in the movie and IRL. Dietz was also wearing a woodland jacket in the movie. Some were wearing Desert BDUs all the way, some were in BDU tops with DSCP Tan pants. Off the shelf DSCP pants are much better quality than BDUs even MARPATs. The BDUs and MARPATs (especially the first generation) were total crap. They rip easy, they wear out quick and fit is poor. You will find high-speed types wearing Tru-Spec and Blackhawk for the quality, the more durable and numerous pockets in addition to not looking uniform-like.
