Heat : Too Much of a Good Thing?
Re: Too Much of a Good Thing?
The character arc for Vincent Hannah with his prescription drug addicted post modernistic deadtech L.A. wife needed more buttoning up. They also didn't need Natalie Portman's character as she was primarily used as a plot point to contrast Vincent's turmoiled family life with Neil's precarious courtship of Edie. What made it look imbalanced to me was that the rest of Hannah's crew were virtually ignored and they stayed in the background. I would have preferred seeing Vincent fight the internal politics of the LAPD while getting closer to capturing Neil, with tidbit scenes of his wife swigging white wine and popping pills.
Re: Too Much of a Good Thing?
This movie should've been longer. A lot of the story was undeveloped (Shiherlis and his wife, most notably)
Re: Too Much of a Good Thing?
I can't agree that this film should be shorter. I don't feel like there is any fluff to it. It works so fantastic as an epic crime story that chopping it down to two hours would regulate it just another crime movie.
So many stories, so little time.

That shoot out scene after the bank robbery was way too long and ridiculous.

Re: Too Much of a Good Thing?
I gotta disagree. It was only about 7 minutes. That's not bad for an action scene. It's also when everything starts falling apart for Neil and his gang. It needed to be an epic confrontation against the cops since the movie had been building it up for quite a while.
Plus, we saw a real life shootout last over 40 minutes not too long after the movie came out. So 7's not too long in comparison.
