Fish Tank : Worst Mother Ever!

OMG this scumbag sorry excuse of a mother was just disgusting. I was almost glad when the girl banged Connor just so she could have one up on this bitch (well except the whole 15 years old thing). The mother was a truly vile woman and it's no wonder the girl was so rough/rude/unlikeable. I felt sorry for the little sister.

Yeah, the mom was messed up. I was surprised she was their mother. She looked too young to have a teenage daughter. They all looked more like sisters.

I think the age contrast was intentional to create several layers of symbolism. Instead of being a proper mother to Mia, she's acting more like an older sister. Also, she was probably around her daughters age when she had Mia (and had probably been seduced herself by someone similar to Connor).

Her character was an extremely realistic portrayal of dysfunctional underclass single mothers in the UK. I've seen countless types like her in real life who are more interested in getting drunk/high and finding the latest boyfriend than the welfare of their children and whose irresponsible lives put their children at risk of abuse and danger.

I'm not sticking up for the feckless, workshy, lazy, slutty slapper, but she was probably little more than a child herself when she was knocked up by some similarly gormless loser. Of course you have to pity the poor kid in those circumstances. They don't ask to be born into a life like that.

Hardly. She was indifferent and resentful at times of Mia but not invasive or abusive.

Agree that she was not the best mother in the world, but she is hardly the worst. A quick trip to any family court will attest to that.
