Diff'rent Strokes : Who played Mr. Drummond's cousin Anna – Conrad Bain or his twin brother Bonar?

In the closing credits, it says Conrad. On IMDb, it says Bonar. If you google Bonar Bain, there's a black and white behind-the-scenes photo of the twins posing for a photo-op between filming (one dressed as Mr. Drummond and the other as Anna). Unless the crew wanted to play mind games with their fanbase, I highly doubt if both men in that photo was Conrad through digital editing. Also, you'll notice near the beginning of that episode when Anna arrived and hugged Mr. Drummond, they were each shown from the back, which leaves me to believe that Conrad was hugging a body double. Nowadays with enhanced technology, that's not needed, thus Eddie Murphy (instead of just seeing the back of him) hugging himself in "The Nutty Professor." But back in the 80s, the "back of actor" method had to be used when playing a dual role. Therefore, if Bonar Bain supposedly played cousin Anna, then how come you never saw Mr. Drummond and Anna touching each other WITHOUT using the "back of actor" method?

Did you check and see if Bonar Bain has an IMDb page?

OK so I checked it out and he does have his own IMDb page with that episode among his credits so I believe it was him in drag.

As for the body double idea, I dunno.
Maybe they just wanted to film it that way or he couldn't be there for the shoot at that angle or whatever.

Was DS ever filmed in front of a live audience or was it always a laugh track?

Like with many sitcoms, I think it was a little of both. I recognize the exact same laugh on numerous sitcoms.

You raise a good point about IMDb, because now I wonder if the producers didn’t want anyone to know that cousin Anna was played by Conrad’s twin brother. Thus, crediting Bonar as Conrad. I base this on the series “Full House” in which the producers didn’t want anyone to know that Michelle was played by twins. Thus, being billed as “Mary Kate Ashley Olsen” until the final season when they changed it to “Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen.” I guess after the Olsen twins started building their empire, the producers figured the secret was out and they might as well bill them with an “and” instead of trying to play it off like it’s one actress with four names on her birth certificate.

As vast as it is the internet is limited with certain obscure things such as what you are seeking.
It takes someone to upload the info, video or whatever other content that goes on there to be seen by all.

IMDb, as you probably know, does get input from the public the way they create Wikipedia pages which means it is not always 100% reliable.
OTOH I dunno who makes the cast lists for shows.
If that is also from the gen. public or from the production studio, the network or anyone else involved directly with the show.

If I were you I would go with IMDb for now, saying it is Conrad's twin bro, until I see something else that claims otherwise.
There is a still shot from that episode that does show the two of them together.

True, but I find it odd that the actual closing credits from that episode lists Conrad as Anna.

Either the credits is playing a joke, got mixed up, he didn't want the credit or IMDb has it right or wrong.

Dana Plato played Hans Von Drummond.

Anna Van Drummond is played by Conrad Bains' twin brother Bonair.

Was Dana on screen in both roles at the same time?
If so then that could deepen the mystery for the Bains bros.

Maybe I'm reaching, but perhaps Bonar didn't want to perpetuate the stigma of men wearing dresses for a role. Only the black demographic seems to be ridiculed for that, such as Tyler Perry, as opposed to Dustin Hoffman in "Tootsie." Thus, my possible misconception that Bonar wanted Conrad to take credit for Anna. But you never know.

Dana was on screen as Hans at the same time. I believe they showed all "four" of them in one shot (Mr. Drummond, Kimberly, Anna, Hans) while of course just facing each other instead of any physical contact.
