Chinese Roulette : Kitchen scene with Kast and Gerhard ?
Re: Kitchen scene with Kast and Gerhard ?
Hi,
Very late reply, but better than never!
The character's name is Ali Ben Basset as given by the DVD's subtitles. (I don't speak German, so I couldn't tell you whether it's pronounced or spelled differently in German.) It is not revealed who this character is. I'm not much of a Fassbinder connoisseur, so I really don't know if this is a reference to another of his works or if it's meant for some other purpose.
I googled the name but didn't come up with anything definitive. Could be a fun little project!

Kitchen scene with Kast and Gerhard ?
Later on, after Angela tells Gabriel that her parent's started having affairs when she got ill, he leaves her room and asks his mother Kast who some person who's name I can't remember is. It is the same name mentioned between Gerhard and Kast.
My question: Who is this person they are discussing and what is the connection between Gerhard and Kast? This is a complex film, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was explained or made clear and it just went over my head. Some might respond, "It doesn't matter!", and that's fine if that was Fassbinder's intention. I just thought it was a subplot that would emerge later. Sorry for the long post.
