Before the Devil Knows You're Dead : Father walking into the heavenly light at the end

Father walking into the heavenly light at the end

What was with that symbolism? Possibly something related to the saying the title was based on ('May you spend 30 minutes in heaven')

Re: Father walking into the heavenly light at the end

Purely my interpretation:

The saying "May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead" I see as meaning "may you enjoy redemption (whether in the afterlife or purely in an atheistic sense of eternal peace) whether you deserve it or not".

I think the light may have signified that Charles died in the hospital (as you see him leaping up into it?) and may have found redemption despite the awful sin (murder) he committed.
