Beauty and the Beast : Running time?

Running time?

I'm thinking if it clocks in at about 2:30, then it means a lot of effort went into telling the story as opposed to just doing the original movie all over again. Yes, the new Cinderella and Jungle Book were each longer than the original, but they essentially kept the majority of the layout. If this plays with things more, it goes to show that they really truly did try.

Re: Running time?

That would be suicide for Disney. No kid is going to sit through a two and a half hour movie.

Re: Running time?

It will not be suicide for Disney. The reason why this is two hours is so they will get to expand on the story from the animated film so it will make sense.

Hate on it all you want, but if people were measured by trying to bash on Disney to get them to meet their expectations, you will be no bigger than a speck of dust.

Re: Running time?

If you were trying to be profound with that last sentence, then you failed miserably. I never said anything about hating the movie. The fact is that Disney's target audience for this movie is children. They don't care about story. They care about spectacle. If Disney wants to make money (and they do because that's what they're all about) they would make a short, sweet movie with funny characters and scenes that are pretty to look at.

Re: Running time?

You're wrong. This film isn't just for children, it's for adults as well. There is a reason its got a pg rating.

Re: Running time?

I'm not wrong, but ok. Believe whatever you want buddy.

Re: Running time?

Kids in the 1960s sat through Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, and those are long movies by today's standards.

Also, the Harry Potter movies and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies were long as well, but kids are able to sit through it.

I'm really curious what the running time will be. Given that they expanded the storyline and wrote more songs, I feel like it has to be over 2 hours.

Re: Running time?

I'm predicting just under two hours. It's long enough to expand on the original film's 85 minutes, but still within the average range for a family movie.

Re: Running time?

I work at the movie theater as the projectionist and we just got some info from Disney. The runtime is 129 minutes according to them (With credits probably). Longer that I would have guessed so I think that's great.

Re: Running time?

Well, that's great news! I hope they don't cut it down. If they have to, just to cut out the fat or dragging scenes, I'm okay with it.

Re: Running time?

Possibly a tad bit over two hours. Like 2:10 to 2:15 or so.

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Re: Running time?

As I saw and posted tonight 2 hours and 3 minutes long, which I guess it is good it is not 2 hours and 30 minutes which would seem long for a children's movie now a days.
