Silent Madness : there are different versions of this, apparently!!

there are different versions of this, apparently!!

I bought a VHS of Silent Madness around 2000, then a few weeks ago I found another one in a store for $3, so I figure it's cheap and I wouldn't mind having another copy.

I watched the 2nd copy I got a few weeks ago and waited for the "drill through the head" scene about 3/4 the way through, when Belinda Montgomery is tied up under the drill press, and one of the orderlies is talking to her right below the drill. The other orderly flips the switch and it shows the drill entering his head and blood comes out while he screams. Well, guess what. It was CUT OUT of the movie!! WTF?? Only about 5 seconds are cut out but it's still baffling to me.

That was the only difference I noticed between the two, apparently there are at least 2 different prints of the film used for the VHS transfer.

Both the VHS tapes are identical looking (as far as I can tell, I haven't inspected them closely)

this is rather odd, as both prints look exactly the same otherwise..

Re: there are different versions of this, apparently!!

Even in the old days of VHS, there could be two versions released and labelled on the plastic covering as to its rating. One of your VHS tapes was rated R and the other was PG, but you wouldn't know that because the cover isn't there and the rating label is gone. This was mainly for folks who didn't want an R version in their home because they had small kids or whatever reason.

Interestingly, when broadcast on the USA network in the mid to late 80s, the drill scene was left in.

Yeah, my VHS tape of Silent Madness is the cut one, sadly. I was enjoying it up until the guy flicks the switch, and suddenly, the orderly dies. It didn't make sense. SILENT MADNESS joins the R-rated cut of the original MY BLOODY VALENTINE in the "butchered scenes that don't make sense thanks to the MPAA" bin. Haha

Three versions, although each equally unwatchable no doubt.
