Terry and June : it is on PARAMOUNT COMEDY,IT IS STILL RUBBISH

it is on PARAMOUNT COMEDY,IT IS STILL RUBBISH

I remember this being on tv 1979-1984.
I hated it then and I hate it now.
Middle Class middle management people in suburban comedy.
Like the Daily Express come to life.
Why Paramount Comedy in the UK think anybody will enjoy this I don't know.
Compared to comedy of similar vintage such as SYKES or even older stuff such as BLESS THIS HOUSE this programme was lazy rubbish.

Re: it is on PARAMOUNT COMEDY,IT IS STILL RUBBISH

Get over yourself and relax, it's funny. FYI, some people do happen to be middle class, and shock horror work in middle management whilst reading the Daily Express. Stick to Bottom and reading the Sun while waiting for your benefits to come through before you troop off to the offie to buy your Dutch Gold. I'll stick to a cocktail and watch Terry and June thank you very much.

Re: it is on PARAMOUNT COMEDY,IT IS STILL RUBBISH

Whether it is funny or not is a matter of opinion, and a lot of people agree with me that this was not funny.
It is NEVER mentioned when people (critics or ordinary people)are talking about classic British comedy because it was lazy narrow minded crap.
Have you ever heard anyone saying they wanted to be in comedy because they liked TERRY and JUNE?

It was out of date even as if was made.
I recall TERRY SCOTT being a fan of apartheid South Africa, this was another reason to dislike him.
See the YOUNG ONES episode where they parody tv like this such as THE GOOD LIFE.

Of course a lot of people are middle class, nearly as many as think they are(when they lose their jobs they discover they are working class),but not all middle class people live in the South East of England, and most of them must be more interesting characters than TERRY and JUNE.

Programmes like this and DON'T WAIT UP(DOCTORS),BUTTERFLIES(EVERYBODY HAS A FUNNY CLASS CLEANING LADY DON'T THEY?) and SECOND TIME AROUND all seem to be much the same to me.

Why were there so many sit coms made about similar sort of people from a similar part of the country,BBC means BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION not HOME COUNTIES after all.

You slag me off using cliches but you are not as cliched as these programmes.

For the record I have been in full time employment for 17 years,I have earned good money and paid a lot of tax, before that I was a student,I am a graduate,I read THE GUARDIAN (I disagree with its views more and more)and THE SCOTSMAN.
I don't usually buy THE SUN except during elections.
I have been on benefit but not for a long time.
I hardly drink at all and don't even know what DUTCH GOLD is.

I am not saying all comedy or drama has to be full of working class people or god forbid migrants, for example I hate SHAMELESS.
I like MY FAMILY,the people in that are middle class but it is funny.
Britain is,and was even in the late 1970s was a complex society but this was not often shown on tv.

Re: it is on PARAMOUNT COMEDY,IT IS STILL RUBBISH

Yes the Young Ones did parody "The Good Life". What is ironic is that The Young Ones has dated far more than The Good Life!!!!!
I do think that both have their place in comedy history.....

As for Terry and June, well it may not be the greatest sit-com in the world, but it's certainly not the worst.

"What's the matter Colonel Sanders - CHICKEN?"

Re: it is on PARAMOUNT COMEDY,IT IS ==NOT== RUBBISH

no, this can be a funny show

read my main post on picking the episodes to watch

65 episodes made

just about HALF are worthwhile, with 10 being the ones you should WATCH then make your comments

personally BLESS THIS HOUSE (I Have the lot on DVD) I thought was very tiresome esp the earliest ones in B&W

SYKES, well you only find his colour series on DVD. Having enjoyed it too, T&J is on well on par with it's 31/65 better episodes

can't please everyone!
