Now Playing and Upcoming Films : have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

did the pandemic combined with the popularity of streaming devices and on demand and renting movies at home actually kill the the theater movie industry?

this age better not be over or else the world has ended.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

I think so. I remember when going to the movies was the coolest treat ever.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Some theaters are open in certain areas. I know I saw a preview for the new Mortal Kombat and the announcer said in theaters.

Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can't take it, and my heart is just going to cave in.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Depends on where one is living. Many won't go due to panic over Covid, but a large part of it too, is there is not much appealing box office potential product being released.

007 and Top Gun when finally released may pique a little more interest.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

I think people that usually go to the movies aren't and people that do other social activities like parks, beaches, outdoor sports, lakes and rivers still do those activities despite the pandemic. They don't care.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

I do both indoor and outdoor activities. Most people would have a balance somewhere.

Streaming services are convenient for many and theater prices are high as cats backs, especially the food. Cinemas also don't have the same charm they used to have. Not much character.

In a sense, theaters only have themselves to blame. Where I live, it is about 16/17 bucks just for a popcorn and drink combo depending on size. Its extortion, especially for families.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Yeah that's true. The most inconvenient part about outdoor activities is that it's not fun unless you go with at least one other person that enjoys that activity.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Anything can be enjoyable in ones own space in their own company. The movies is a place where one would expect to see others on their own. Folks perhaps may have been more judgemental of others in the past for doing sole activities, but I don't sense it as much now.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

I've done enough by myself. I want to do things with friends now.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

It can depend on circumstance for my situation. I do plenty of things with others, yet there are times when I like to do things on my own and perhaps need to do them on my own. I don't have to factor in others and especially if a time frame is limited, I can do it at my own pace and behest.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

That's true and I believe you.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

lol top guy? really??? maybe if it was 1987. you realize that tom cruise is way too old to be making a sequel to top gun right? this is a joke. he should be ashamed of himself making a sequel to a movie he made when he was 24 years old. nothing is worse than making an unneeded sequel 20 or 30 year later except making a unneeded remake. he's a completely different actor than he was in 1986.

so do you think we'll recover from covid this year or ever as far as the box office being a big enough business to continue?

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Hell yeah! He's a better actor. Look, nobody can say anything that will make me hate Tom Cruise. The dude is like a role model. Maybe he went a little crazy for Katie but other than that, he's completely normal. So there!

And people loved Top Gun. It was a wildly popular in the 80s. It was popular discussion on imdb a few years ago. There's nothing else going on in the theaters. The box office needs an action flick.

Okay?

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

I was intrigued to see how Top Gun: Maverick was going to open last year and if Cruise could still make a #1 box office attraction, especially a sequel to a film that is over 30yrs old. We will never know now, but I'd say there would be a large interest out there. The original has many fans, the sequel looks well cast and it apparently is using real air craft and aerial stunts, rather than an abundance of cgi.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

what do you mean now we will never know? yes we will when it comes out this year we will know.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

If there was no Covid hysteria last year, it would have been gauged as per usual as NO restrictions. This year 2020 Covid is STILL around and I doubt the film, or ANY blockbuster film, will reach its potential box office. Speculation I know, but the reason why many films were held back.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

There haven't been any GOOD movies in theaters in about 30 years!

Mean people suck.

😆

I could align with that. There has been worthy stuff, I just don't feel it is in the same league or ballpark as last century.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Yes, exactly. But the exceptions prove the rule!

Mean people suck.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

Yes, as exceptions are not the general rule. Those that are of the younger generation really don't get this, as many wont have the point of reference regarding the older product from the 20th Century.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

No. Godzilla vs Kong just proved that people still want to go to the theaters. There are much bigger movies scheduled for theater releases this year that will do even better. Theaters will recover sooner rather than later.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

thank you i really urgently needed positive getting over the pandemic pandemic is over news. now if i can just get news of not having to wearing a mask anywhere anymore then i will be really relieved.

Re: have they actually reached the point where we have no movies in theaters?

exactly and just like theater movies recovering sooner rather than later things have been going back to normal sooner rather than later in the last 2 weeks.
