Ivana Baquero : faun or pan?

faun or pan?

Hola! Fauno en espanol. The movie title in english is Pan's Labyrinth. But faun is a more traditional word for this half-human, half-goat/sheep creature than pan, and faunus is a formal word for pan. All three words are being used, though. How's Faun's Labyrinth or Faunus' Labyrinth? Of course, fawn is a word for a kid deer and does n b68 ot fit in here. Ivana es muy bonita y guapa.

Re: faun or pan?

I am not sure why they chose Pan for the English title, but Faun is the Roman word for satyr, which is Greek. Pan is the name of the god, most often depicted as a satyr himself. Pan's Roman name is Faunus. In literature and art the word satyr is often used for eroticism or to provoke some kind of fear due to the demon/satanic form of the horns, cloven hooves, and sometimes more goatlike features. Faun is a softer word, and is used more in fantasy literature (C.S.Lewis for example) as they are portrayed more friendly. Since The Faun in the film is friendly towards Ofelia, it might be why they chose that term.
