best books about the best movies of all time?

anyone have recommendations on the best books rating the best movies? i have 501 must see movies book. colorful and fun books that give opinions on the best movies books are the ones i'd most like to have. my favorite of all time is my 1996 video movie guide from marsha mason and another person.

i'm looking for a black and white 1980 book that is about horror films and horror film actors. every picture is in black and white. it had all these cool actresses in it. i checked it out from my library but haven't been able to find it for me to purchase recently. does anyone know the name of this book?

These are my 2 favorite movie books.

The Maltin book is renewed every year, but I stopped getting them after 2015.

i hate and can't stand leonard maltin bc if yo look at his reviews of the friday the 13th series he gives them all bad ratings of under good. so he's not a good movie reviewer or rater.

I think Maltin is a great reviewer.

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

then how can you give him an excuse for giving every single friday the 13th film bad ratings? haven't you read them yet in your book?

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

The Friday 13th movies were B grade, but enjoyed by many. I personally didn't care for them because there are better slasher movies around.
Not everybody has to agree with your viewpoint Luke. It's healthy for people to disagree amicably about movies, music etc.

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

you're wrong. they are not b grade films in any way. they are a class films made at the highest level of artistic and quality filmmaking for the subgenre that they are in. the friday the 13th movies are the best non scary slasher movies ever made.

so to completely devalue them, degrade them and call them not worth watching is wrong. and it's wrong not just bc it's not true but it's wrong bc it makes people not want to watch them and not watch them but they should and need to watch them to understand the history horror movies and the history of slasher movies and so they can appreciate horror and slasher films and so they know how to make a slasher film.

maybe you just need to really watch them, watch them with an open mind, to get into them fully, understand where the filmmakers were going with each of them.

my friend thought before we watched all of them together that they are all the same but found out that he was wrong bc each of them offers more of the overall story and the characters. it's a saga with exciting characters fighting for their lives and having a blast while living their lives.

also the story is linear, so things happen then things progress with familiar characters. so it's not just mindless, random characters who don't continue the story and don't continue living in future installments.

if you watched more of them or one of them you'd know they aren't b grade films.

you don't know what b grade films are, they are called b movies. movies that are really low budget and poorly made. movies made by really small companies that are so sub standard in quality that they are not comparable to studio films.

OK. So what if Maltin was wrong about these movies, and they've proved to become a kind of cult through the years? That doesn't make every single one of his reviews trash. I never take much notice of reviewers scores anyway. I mostly read those reviews for other info.
I just think it's a shame that you've wiped this guy because of one review that offended you.

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

it's not one review or rating it's 10 reviews and ratings. but don't you see that that is where i had a problem. bc if it had just been half of the 10 movies that he rated under a good movie rating then i would have been fine or even 7 out of 10 of those movies but he rated all 10 of them at under 2 stars out of 4.

i lost all respect for him after i saw that. it's not about this when you rate movies, it's not about giving your personal preferences it's about giving unbiased movie ratings.

this is why i love my favorite movie review and rating book called 1996 video movie guide by marsha mason and mick porter. they give fair ratings and reviews to most of the movies in their book.

they have a wide range of appreciation for movies that most people don't appreciate bc they know that not everyone is going to hate obscure movies or cult movies and not everyone is going to love hollywood blockbuster movies.

Face up to this reality check for you.

You have horrible taste in movies then.

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

My favorite book is "I saw your xvideos profile and you're an ugly pervert"

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

Hollywood Babylon.

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

Maltins' movie guide is great. "The Future of the Movies" by Rogert Ebert and Gene Siskel is great as well.

Re: best books about the best movies of all time?

maltin's book can suck a dick he falsely gave a bad movie rating to all but the first friday the 13th.

ebert was better at rating movies than siskel.

one thing that is missing in today i america is a movie review show. why is there still, still like 15 years later not a movie review show on every week like siskel and ebert?

I also recommend "The Making of the African Queen, or, How I Went To Africa With Bogie, Bacall, and Huston, and Almost Lost My Mind" by Katharine Hepburn. I think that was a great movie.
