Baz Luhrmann : Worst director on the planet?

Worst director on the planet?

Surely a strong contender.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

From only 4 films?
I thought Moulin Rouge! was fantastic but I greatly appreciate your well thought out opinion.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

No, that would be M. Night Shamamalanlan

And would you care to elaborate?

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Besides the 'Sixth Sense' (which I loved!) I find all the performances pretty weak and not that great in my opinion. But yes his writing is very bad!

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Shyamalan's not the worst! I'm not sure Luhrmann deserves the title ether, though I really just couldn't stand Romeo + Juliet nor Moulin Rouge!

Re: Worst director on the planet?

I agree, bar one film of his, Night is a really bad director.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Of course he's not the "worst" if you're talking technical competence. I do understand what people see in him--he gives you a serious overload of aesthetic and emotional content every time out. But if you don't like his short-attention-span, overdecorated style and find his emotions composted from the entire history of movie cliches, he definitely is one of the most irritating directors on the planet. As someone who worships this novel, he's a horrible directorial choice--it's going to be like a series of MTV videos with some Fitzgerald dialogue between. In 3D, yet. I'm sure that'll heighten the nuanced drama.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Absolutely awesome response. I feel exactly the same.

I simply am not there...

Re: Worst director on the planet?

This guy is given great storylines (Romeo & Juliet, Great Gatsby), great actors, and he will still manage to ruin it.

Awful director.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Exactly. He can make people walk out on Shakespeare, Nicole Kidman, Paris, and the jazz era.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Yea. Not the worst director on the planet, worst person to be involved in any form of art on the planet.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Look at the party scenes in The Aviator. Martin Scorsese would have been the perfect choice to direct The Great Gatsby.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

That's a good question.

Like half of the 80s horror movies directors just got done watching Demonic Toys and Puppet Master so whoever the hell did them.

But I agree with another poster I don't get why you're asking this here.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

A good director but showy.

Its that man again!!

Re: Worst director on the planet?

I would say that he is the worst director to work with blockbuster-type budgets, but only secondary to Michael Bay.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Ooh, Michael Bay. Maybe we could cut the Razzie in half.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Probably, yes.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Unpossibrruu - Uwe Boll exists.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Yes, he is our modern day Ed Wood only worse considering he is making bad films with big budgefs, A list stars and classic story lines which he turns into an unwatchable messes. At least Ed's films are watchable.

Re: Worst director on the planet?

Possibly but it's hard to confirm because you're eliminating other contenders from around the planet. So, contender for you he will always just be. For other people, he's quite a genius.
For my part, his work is an acquired taste - some of that I like and some was merely mediocre.
