Star Trek: The Next Generation : Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Seriously.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

For example, Mem?

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Does alienate mean turn into an alien? Like when Geordi went down on that planet and became a chameleon thing?

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

He didn't get that way from saying stuff though.
How did they end up "catching" that alien change disease thing?

This is going to be difficult to explain without including spoilers, but here goes... The real breakthrough in that episode came when La Forge noticed an incongruous shadow in the holodeck recreation of the Tarchannen III sensor logs.

"Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."- J. Robert Oppenheimer

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

I figured one of the original glowy-veined shadow chameleons said to him "You've been Alienated" and it induced the change.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

one word... butthurt.

b/c they are butthurt. get over it.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

How's things going, Mem? Everything, okay? I know you're not Mem, Nak.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

I need some real world solutions...maybe I should go to THE GODFATHER board...ha

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

You're not doing that crap AGAIN, CJ? I mean, not replying to the correct person? Another thing that's annoying about you.

Why are you here if you haven't seen the movie yet?

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Seriously? In a day and age when college students demand "safe zones" from freedom of speech because their feelings get hurt and they are "afraid", when college profs lead protests to silence the voices of those they disagree with, do you really need to ask this question?

GlobalWarmer
I can teach you how to shoot so close to a raccoon that he craps himself.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

There have been South Park episodes about safe zones recently. Lol.

This is hilarious if you aren't being sarcastic. I go to college in San Francisco, you know the most radical hippie liberal utopia socialistville, and in the years I have been going there I have yet to encounter anything like this. Not even once. I always say what I think and I know I have angered several people in some of my classes, yet I mysteriously remain un-jailed by the political correctness Gestapo. In fact, the only times I have ever heard about this kind of thing is from people complaining endlessly about it and never from anyone who can provide credible evidence this is some sort of epidemic.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

that is only because people take freedom of speech too far and too seriously. name-calling, racial slurs, public shaming and personal attacks are apparently freedom of speech.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Amazing, isn't it, Deem?

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

I know! I go to my neighbor's apartment pretty much every sunday because her mother wants to see me and make sure I am okay..[god bless her] and I had to leave a little earlier yesterday than usual because they insisted on talking about politics and how much of an a hole trump is and how much of a saint Hillary is.

sitting there quietly is one thing but when her father asks me who I like and who I am voting for I knew better than to answer honestly.

to be honest, it is nobody's business who I want or who I am going to end up voting for, that is why YOU VOTE IN A PRIVATE BOOTH AND NOT AT A PUBLIC POOL!

people have been killed for less.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Indeed. Interesting note. For someone who doesn't believe in God, you sure invoke his name quite often. Just an observation.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

your micro aggression against me has trigger my inferior sense of self worth while I am in my internet safe space. Now I must block you and eat some oreo cookies.

There are people who, up until this point, don't realize I am not at all serious. That is the problem.

As to Star Trek. Cause TNG was preachy and had like 2 good seasons.

FIGHT!

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Funny. TNG has more than two good seasons, however. I'd say 6. Season 1, admittedly wasn't the best.

RIP Gene Wilder. One of the funniest people of all time. RIP Matt Roberts. You were great.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

I wasn't being serious.

I enjoyed all but the first and last season. I know everyone dislikes the first season so no need to comment there.

I don't hate season 2. It still is very "alien of the week" but mixed in are a few great episodes and discussions (if only Roddenberry had let them actually argue.......). Still, earliest signs that the show could actually be a successor to TOS.

By season 7 it just seemed like it was becoming stale. Technobabble solutions and rehashed bad guys.

IMO seasons 3-4 are the best, but 2-6 I certainly enjoy.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Don't know maybe because people seem to have very short fuses nowadays?

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Because people have feelings and also egos and the same things could be said about nations.

Words are how we communicate aside from body language and words exchanged have led to murders and wars.

Re: Why does saying stuff alienate people?

Season 2 has some of my favorite episodes. Sad but true, Eddy.
