The Walking Dead : Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

Shredder has made me think about this again. Why do we care? I don't even know what most people really look like, or if they have jobs or are just basement-dwelling apes. And yet…

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

I never understood why either.

"I am Kamala Harris, my pronouns are she and her, and I am a woman sitting at the table wearing a blue suit." -A fucking idiot

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

In my particular case: There is the real world and then there is what people here want to believe. I just find it annoying when people don't believe reality because it's just not what they want to believe.

Now, I can't change facts. I just repeat them to piss off those who SOOOO badly wish they were not real facts.

Does that make sense?

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

But why get annoyed? I simply assume that my enemies are fearfully jealous of my real-life charm and success. I don't make strenuous attempts to convince them of the reality of those things.

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

I do because I have OCD and have a need that everyone understands that their delusions are products of their insecurities and the only way to overcome an insecurity is by facing it head on, and then letting it go and not being bothered by it.

That said, in reality, if you don't want to believe something about me, it doesn't matter. Physical proof is there, so I don't need to prove it. I just live my life and shake my head at all the disturbed people who will not be productive citizens because of their own mental discourse.

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

I do because I have mental defects which compell me to be retardedly annoying

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

My theory:
We don't know what poster's look like and have very little personal info like where they live, societal/financial status, profession, how they dress. IRL, we see all these things and so their actual personality only plays a small part in how they are perceived and judged.
Here they are judged solely on their personality. It's a much more intimate and scary (for some) judgement. If someone doesn't like a poster, that poster doesn't have any excuses to fall back on. "Oh, he resents me because I have more money, yada yada yada"
Many people are accustomed to having a certain amount of respect in the real world and are completely thrown when they realize that their personality alone can't earn it for them.

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

I like it. Though are we being judged on our personalities? Or on the version of it we choose to display? Or are you saying we can't help reveal what we are on message boards (which I think is a good, and scary, argument)?

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

Hmmm. I guess I can only speak for myself here. I enjoy the boards so much because it's the only place where I don't need a filter. Nothing I say here will hurt my real life or reputation and I need this outlet. I do believe people can't help but reveal themselves in their postings. We've seen that, right? Posters presenting themselves with a certain image, but who they are does eventually come out. I think that's often what's happening when posters have a "meltdown." Their true feelings burst at some point

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

Good analysis,

Would add that I think in the end many people do care a little about what some of the other people think of them here. Not what everybody thinks, but some.

It's not rationale, but it's pretty human.

Re: Why do we care about our reps on message boards?

Because you gotta get those reps in if you want to get jacked, brah!
