Why did Athena have to (spoiler)?

Why did Athena have to die? She was the best character in the movie, and that death sequence was heartbreaking. I watched the movie last year, and I did enjoy it, but so far I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again since, because I have terrible problems dealing with seeing little girls die in movies. With most people, it's dogs, but with me, it's little girls. Yes, I know she's actually an automaton who's probably much older than Frank, but my brain sees a little girl.

My knees are getting soggy

Re: Why did Athena have to (spoiler)?

You answered your own question. If you want to evoke maximum emotion with a character death, you do it to the most vulnerable seeming character.

I lose it every time the loyal dog dies protecting their human in a film, yet I simultaneously crave those moments because it adds another notch to my emotion bank.

You should embrace your empathy, it's one of mankind's greatest assets.

Re: Why did Athena have to (spoiler)?

She was never alive to begin with.

The worst thing that ever happened to the movies was when some pretentious twit decided they should be art.
