The Soapbox : Which states/areas Up North resemble Down South mostly?

I know people Up North like New Orleans, which has maybe Acadians from New England as a penal colony, which may be mainly what New Orleans was, by the French, maybe with prisoners from France, as well, but people obsessing over "the homeland," France. I know I lived in a suburb, and the other kids were overly into the culture and historical aspect of New Orleans. (It was very funny because right before moving there I lived in the oldest continuing city in the US at about the same latitude as New Orleans but in Northeastern Florida, just under maybe the 2nd major area of Florida, the big city of Jacksonville, where I lived when I was 5 and 6.
