Audio Equipment and Home Theater Audio : Where to get good mics to use in a very small film

Where to get good mics to use in a very small film

I'm thinking of what the biggest difference between a real film and a home video and that is hearing people talk. I want some sort of device to put on/make the actors voices hearable. I want it like a real movie's sound. Is there any recommendations and where I can get these devices. Please. I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

It's helpful to know where you are located. In LA area there's a good place called Location Sound. I don't know though if they RENT equipment.
Basically what you need is location recorder with shotgun mics and windscreen for them. There's a lot of rentals around.
Some of the handheld recorders, such as Microtrack fro M-Audio will do, if used properly.
Good luck!
