Books : Wheel of Time series

Wheel of Time series

I bought the first book in special binding hardcover and I"m going to start reading the book soon.

Is it any good? I heard Robert Jordan died due to illness and the next author took over and finished the series.

If I get pulled over, it better be a gay policeman riding on a unicorn.

Re: Wheel of Time series

I haven't read it myself, but my father was a huge fan before his own death a few years ago.

After Jordan died, my dad had no idea and kept bugging me for years when the next book would come out (I was like his book supplier). Finally, one day I googled it, thinking the guy must have died since it was so long since the last one was released, and found out how true it was, but the good news, i guess, that Sanderson would be taking over and Jordan had worked extensively with the guy before his own death knowing it was coming, including whole chapters he had written and basically the entire plot spelled out for him.

I believe Amazon is coming out with a series based on the books, but honestly from what I know about the series, it seems fairly generic. I did attempt to read some of the first book, but I didn't enjoy the style and his over describing every blade of grass and such mundane details as that.

Bring. More. Sheep.

Re: Wheel of Time series

Sorry to hear about your father. RIP sir.

I sympathize with you for being a book supplier. lol My sister and my mother did the same. Though, in a few years, they quickly got bored of reading the books and gave up. I told them to try to absorb and immerse themselves into the books. I firmly believe they're doing it wrong and got impatient because novels tend to be very detailed when it comes to reading the book, according to them. It's supposed to be though. It's called character development and world building. My aunt and I love reading books and since she's more experienced with the books, every once in a while she'd tell me which book to get or read since she think it's good. She's usually right. Recently, she just gave up reading the books since she claimed she has "no time for them" (which I doubt). Right now, I'm probably the only one in the family who still read books. She mentioned she read the books ever since she was young so I imagine she probably lost interest in reading any more books.

But I'm glad someone finished the series for Robert Jordan. I would hate to read the incomplete series.

I heard about Amazon developing the series based on the books. Same goes for Interview with the Vampire series and Lord of the Rings prequel.

I believe some authors put in extensive details as a means to either make you feel like you were there or as a means to make the books 'epic'. Honestly, if the authors attempt the latter, I'd wouldn't recommend it because quality over quantity usually works.
