Sex and the City : What made you cry?

What made you cry?

I recently re-watched the entire show again for the 10th time and I never get sick of it. I laugh and cry each time, and it made me wonder what scenes other people find especially moving.

I always always cry in the final episode when Miranda has found Steves mom on the street and brings her home and gives her a bath. The scene that gets me is when Magda comes in and tells her "What you did was love. You love" and seeing Miranda almost break into tears. That scene is incredible and I'm always moved.

Which scenes makes you cry?

Re: What made you cry?

I think I cried when I first watched the episode where Charlotte has a miscarriage but then goes to Brady's party because you can really feel her devastation but that she also knows she can pick herself up and slowly keep going with life. Even when I rewatch and she's so elated she's pregnant I start feeling sad.

Re: What made you cry?

Oh that is a good one, that also makes me incredibly sad. When she watches the story of Elizabeth Taylor and then snaps out of her state. Good one!

Re: What made you cry?

The only time I remember tearing up was when Charlotte approached Harry at the Jewish mixer and told him she was very sorry and did not care about marriage or anything except she just wanted to be with him. He said that was not good enough and she started to nod in defeat. He then got down on his knees and proposed. Awww, such a sweet scene.

Re: What made you cry?

That is a sweet one! She is so humbled and on the verge of tears and it gave me the feels when he proposed after a split second we thought he'd turn her down.

Re: What made you cry?

YES! To this day I cannot watch Harry's proposal without tearing up.

Re: What made you cry?

I found this scene to be one of the most genuinely heartfelt in the entire series. When it first aired, I was definitely moved to tears.

I just watched this the other day & cried my eyes out!!! I thought Kristin's acting was so good in that scene, I genuinely felt like she was heartbroken & just wanted Harry no matter what.

GOOD ONE!

Re: What made you cry?

When Miranda got into the argument with the sales lady trying to help her get fitted for a bra for her mom's funeral, and then realized she'd never have another argument with her mom again... and lets the woman hug her and she breaks down crying.

Also when she is coming back down the aisle at the end of the funeral and Carrie walks with her, and then she sees that Steve showed up.

My Motherboard, My Self - definitely the episode I can't get through without tearing up.

Big one for me.

I actually thought it was so sweet that Steve and Aiden showed up. I know when my own father passed, just seeing familiar faces at the memorial was soo touching.

Yep! This whole episode is the one that stands out to me.

Re: What made you cry?

yes! Seeing Steve support her while she is walking down the aisle makes me cry every time!!

Re: What made you cry?

One scene that really moved me was when Charlotte was running in the park, the day she met Trudy Stork and her dog. Charlotte was in despair over her inability to have children, and her pain seemed very authentic.

Kristin Davis is a very under-rated actress in my opinion.

Re: What made you cry?

Seeing as a lot of these suggested moments are Charlotte related and I agree with them all, you are right, Kristin is a great actress and doesn't get enough props.

Very true. I always get emotional when she runs into Miranda in the street and says she can't have a baby (only a 15 percent chance). Miranda doesn't know what to say so just walks behind her to make sure she gets home ok.

Also the part where Trey finally says he's tired and doesn't want to have a baby anymore. Charlotte looks genuinely devastated. Very sad.

Re: What made you cry?

When Maranda is walking at the church at her mother's funeral, and she breaks down...and Carrie sees her, runs to her, takes her hand and walks with her.

Makes me cry EVERY time!

The big moments are gonna come. You can't help that. It's what you do afterwards that counts.

Re: What made you cry?

I agree. The scene that tears me up every time I watch it is the Magda bathtub scene. I get a little teary eyed when Carrie looks at the horse at the end of Ex and the City; I feel like the horse wants to be free (from its ropes).

Re: What made you cry?

I basically cried when Carrie's heart was broken. When Charlotte's heart was broken. I always thought that Aiden was the better man out of her two biggest loves. John (Mr Big) was far to selfish and narcissistic. But, when she tells Aiden she slept with Big and he decides to not participate in Charlotte's wedding and leaves. When Carrie learns Mr Big has returned from France and returns with Natasha and sees them at Southampton beach party.

Samantha was the character who made me laugh. I was never a fan of Miranda. I found her too judgmental, sometimes cold and indifferent. But, when she takes the train to Philadelphia when her mother had a heart attack and calls Carrie, then she calls to tell her she past away always makes me cry. At the end of the church services and she sees both Aiden and Steve were there to pay their respects after being told not to come and did anyway.

I cried the most for Charlotte when she found out it would be almost impossible for her to get pregnant, when that's all she ever dreamed about as a child. I loved that scene where she's tries to avoid a newly pregnant Miranda. I loved how Miranda was so concerned for Charlotte and follows her home to make sure she's okay.

Re: What made you cry?

Three scenes with Carrie were very moving to me and are a credit to SJP's acting.

The first, in La Douleur Exquise, her last moments with Big, and then alone. She really conveyed how it feels to love someone more than they love you and the despair you feel when you realize you have failed to win them over.

The second, when she sees Big and Natascha at the Hamptons Hoedown - the shock of discovering that Big had returned with a new girlfriend who appeared to completely outclass her.

The third, when Big tells her he and Natascha are engaged. Her reaction was entirely believable.

Re: What made you cry?

In Frenemies, when Charlotte first attempted to seduce Trey and he rejected her, the pain in her face actually moved me to tears. She looked incredibly beautiful.

Re: What made you cry?

There's a re-run of the show in my country, and the scene that made me cry again is when Aidan (who was my favorite of all dates) shows up at Charlotte's (1st) wedding and he and Carrie cry as they break up. Then he leaves, and Carrie goes to Charlotte and Miranda hugs her as she can see her friend is heartbroken.

Re: What made you cry?

In the movie but when carrie freaks out that big ditched her at the wedding. Kinda intense

Re: What made you cry?

In the final episode when Harry showed Charlotte a picture of the baby they were officially going to get.
"That's our baby, I can feel it." Gives me chills

Re: What made you cry?

I cry a little when Carrie gets stood up at her wedding too, even though I lost what sympathy I had when she takes him BACK later on!

I do tend to weep when they play that beautiful version of 'Auld Lang Syne', and we see Carrie in a strangely-unselfish manner take multiple transportations just to be with her lonely friend.

Re: What made you cry?

From the series:

The episode where Miranda's Mum dies. The scene where she's in the changing room with the shop assistant and she breaks and hugs the woman. Then again when she's walking down the aisle behind her Mum's coffin and her sister and brother in law and she breaks again, and then when they show that Steve turned up for her (that makes me start going even more).

Most of the final episode gets me, to be honest, but mainly Miranda and Steve's Mum and Charlotte seeing the picture of her baby.

When Smith shaves his head for Samantha.

When Miranda drops the spaghetti sauce on the floor and opens up to Steve that she's scared he's going to see her flaws and he's not going to like them.

When Charlotte tells Miranda she can't get pregnant.

When Charlotte and Trey argue after the 'fling' and Charlotte realises that it's not working.

When Charlotte see's Harry (it's been a while since I watched it so I can't remember where they were) and she opens up to him and says she just wants him and then he proposes.

I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them all right now.
I think I've basically come to the conclusion that it's mostly Miranda and Charlotte that manage to set me off. I think it's because Miranda rarely lets herself be vulnerable and so when she does it's surprising, and Charlotte is usually so upbeat and positive that it's quite disheartening to see her upset.

From the first movie (I pretend the second one doesn't exist because I hated it):

When Carrie is hitting Big with the flowers and crying because he stood her up and she hugs Charlotte and Charlotte shouts 'No!' at Big. The combination of Carrie having a meltdown (despite how annoyed I got with her in the wedding planning process, that was still a horrific thing for him to do and I wouldn't wish that on anyone) and Charlotte being so angry (which is something we rarely see from her) that scene just gets to me (although, conversely, when Charlotte bumps into Big at the restaurant and yells at him that cracks me up every time!).

When Charlotte reveals she's pregnant. I just felt so happy for her.

Again, Charlotte, when she tells Carrie she hasn't been running because she's so scared she might lose the baby.

When Carrie goes to see Miranda on New Years Eve. That was probably the most unselfish thing Carrie ever did and it was so sweet because she could hear how lonely and sad Miranda felt.

Snap. I refuse to even acknowledge the second one.

It doesn't make me cry, but definitely gets me choked up. This was uncharacteristically selfless of Carrie. A very sweet scene.

"What you don't like rice? Tell me Michael, how can a billion Chinese people be wrong?"

Re: What made you cry?

Glad it's not just me. I thought the first movie was fun and a nice send off/closure for the series and for the fans. The second one was just awful. They were all so out of character and/or over exaggerated, and it was really offensive to Abu Dhabi. It was bad.

It doesn't make me cry, but definitely gets me choked up. This was uncharacteristically selfless of Carrie. A very sweet scene.

Cry may be a strong word, usually it just gets me choked up too but I did have one time where I watched it and it actually did make me cry. Mainly because I was able to identify with how Miranda was feeling at the time. The scene surprised me as well because it is rare to see Carrie act so selflessly.

Re: What made you cry?

Samantha's last scene with Smith. 'You flew all night just to tell me that?' 'You have meant more to me than any man I've ever known'. I love that. Samantha never wants to show vulnerability but she does with him. And that line is so important, she doesn't just say I love you - that doesn't cover it - she tells him how much he means to her.

Re: What made you cry?

That's a good one. I know it must be hard to write a romantic scene for Samantha without losing the character or seeming way too corny but that was really well done.

Re: What made you cry?

Yup and then she dumps him a few years later saying "I love me more."

Re: What made you cry?

Man, you are most unpleasant. "Hey you enjoyed a moment, I'm only here to dump on it!" Often people can be in love and then not in love. Doesn't mean the love didn't ever exist or that you need to be so cynical about everything.

Re: What made you cry?

I'm sorry moonlighty, but I have seen how you deal with people in the past, so you are the last person who should be accusing others of being unpleasant. My comment was not meant to destroy a moment, it was more of a jab at the writers of the character and some dark humor. It is a fictional tv show for goodness sakes!
And I am not cynical, I just have a general negative view and expect the worse.

Re: What made you cry?

the episode when Miranda's mother died...Samantha crying, Carry grabbing Miranda's hand when she almost broke down in the aisle, Miranda's break down in the fitting room with the bra....it was so moving.

Re: What made you cry?

-Like many of you-when Miranda is breaking down walking behind her mother's casket and Carrie goes to walk with her. That makes me cry every time.

-The last 5 minutes of the series always gets me teary-eyed. Especially at the part where Miranda sees Carrie come into the coffee shop and screams. Goosebumps and tears at the same time.

-"Moo with me"

Re: What made you cry?

I will agree the finale was sad particularly when Carrie was left alone in Paris while Alek was busy with his art exhibit. Seeing Mary all delirious was sad.

Re: What made you cry?

The last episode when Charlotte finds out about getting the baby.

Re: What made you cry?

I think the one that always gets me and I don't see it mentioned yet. Is when Samantha cheats on Smith with Richard. You can see in her face when Richard is making his moves that she is not into it and and is completely withdrawn but then breaks down after she walks out of the elevator ALWAYS gets to me.

Re: What made you cry?

The scene at Brady's birthday party when Steve tells Miranda that she's 'the one'.

Re: What made you cry?

Cry is too strong a word, but on my latest re-watch, Charlotte asking Harry for another chance was very poignant. Her speech about not caring about marriage anymore, just that she misses him and wants to be with him - it was very un-Charlotte of her and i really liked her in that scene.
