Long Weekend : What is the Intended Message of this Movie (Spoilers)?

What is the Intended Message of this Movie (Spoilers)?

Usually I would sympathise or feel sad for leading characters that die in movies. But strangely, when his wife died, I felt she kind of deserved it! And I really thought it was the indigenous people of Australia who had killed her (thinking she was an intruder or something). Such people were screened for a short moment.

I guess the message of this film is to show that sometimes, planning for a retreat in a secluded place (supposedly to recharge/rejuvenate/revitalise/revive relationships from an otherwise difficult bustling city lifestyle) may not work or help, that it may even be counter-productive. Drilling it deeper, to mend ties or deepen relationships, it can't be a unilateral decision. Both parties must agree to the plan. Otherwise, frictions are bound to occur, and in extreme cases, lives could be lost as depicted in this movie.

Anyone with similar sentiments?

Pretty cool interpretation and I can't help but agree (watch "Retreat" - actually I can't remember the title but it's the one with Cillian Murphy which has a similar idea to what you're saying).

I really thought it simply represented the Evil that mankind is capable of VS Nature. Of course, I'm mostly referring to the original "Long Weekend" this was based on. The wife had an abortion and was feeling so guilty about it.
Anyway, I love "wilderness survival" movies mixed with metaphysical existentional movies. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.

It's really annoying when you're looking forward to seeing a film and then someone spoils it for you. But the poster of this thread marked it now, thank you for that!

Re: What is the Intended Message of this Movie (Spoilers)?

Perhaps reading everything you can before you see a movie is the issue. Even with the word spoiler in the title, the title itself, What Is The Intended Message Of This Movie, should tell you not to read it. You know, duh.

Re: What is the Intended Message of this Movie (Spoilers)?

I know the tag line was about disrespect of nature, but I thought the movie was about a guy that was going insane.
I think he murdered his wife and other campers and slowly went insane and ran through the woods and got hit by a truck.
I don't know.
It doesn't all fit that theory for sure, but at least I was able to make some sense of it that way.
