Re: Watching Poltergeist

Fun movie

A lot more family friendly than most people would have you think.

Also, word in the street is it was mostly directed by Spielberg - he didn’t want to take credit because he didnt want his name associated with horror movies.

Tobe Hooper

Re: Watching Poltergeist

Bloody people that don’t know the difference between “produced” and “directed”

Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is credited as the director - even though it looks nothing like his work

Re: Watching Poltergeist

All good. I’d always thought that Spielberg played a big part in directing it but my suspicious weren’t confirmed until the last couple of years.

I love Texas Chainsaw Massacre but there’s not a single movie he’s made that looks as well directed as Poltergeist was.

Re: Watching Poltergeist

It was actually because Universal Studios had a clause in Spielberg’s contract with them that he wasn’t allowed to make another movie while E.T. was in production. Seems like the dude found a loophole, though.

Re: Watching Poltergeist

Fuck yeah, go Spielberg!

Shame he didn’t make another horror movie instead of directing “Always”.

The scary thing is that the guy who played Kane had terminal cancer while filming this,no make up was used to make him look this spooky.

"Carol Anne"

I watched an episode of a guy probably from LA making 2 lists of reasons her death was like related or not.

A classic line from a classic film. And those were the days when TV stations actually signed off for the night! LOL!

The sequels should never have happened. That's a little gem that didn't need anything else.

Re: Watching Poltergeist

The second one wasn't that bad, but the third one is an abomination. I mean, I do like the concept of demons imitating you through reflection on the mirror as well as the other dimension overtaking the suite (and Heather O'Rourke was excellent), but even a few creepy scenes couldn't save the movie. Plus, the third movie was Heather O'Rourke's last film.

And I remember I did the research on the young actress last year and I was shocked and saddened to see she had died and she was pretty young! Same with the young actress who played an older sister in the first movie, she was killed by her boyfriend. Tragic for them both.

Here's the link to the cast's deaths:

Re: Watching Poltergeist

It was a good movie, indeed. It freaked me out as a kid and I remember being so paranoid that the closet would open and suck me into another dimension as a kid. Poor me.

Though, the remake is okay. I actually like the scenes where you can see what's on the "other side". It was a creepy scene. I can't imagine walking in the hall with many hands. I was surprised the little girl didn't get snatched by them and get ripped into pieces. But nevertheless, it could have been better.

Re: Watching Poltergeist

Definitely one of my favorite horror movies. Movie kinda fucked me up when I was a kid. Was just getting over being terrified of the dark and then my dad rented the movie from Blockbuster for Halloween and my brother and I watched it with him and it kinda set me back a few years with the whole being scared of the dark thing.

I live. I die. I live again.

Re: Watching Poltergeist

Re: Watching Poltergeist

Just a few lines of dialogue from Poltergeist III

Carol Anne…Carol Anne…Carol Anne…Carol Anne…Carol Anne…Carol Anne…Carol Anne

Ah! They don't write dialogue like that anymore.
