I like the George C. Scott version, too, but Alastair Sim's Scrooge is still my favorite.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

That one has always been another version we love watching.

There's Alastair! Thank you for posting both film versions, MissMargoChanning. BTW, All About Eve is my favorite Bette Davis film.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

You are most welcome! Merry Christmas To You!

AAE is my all time favorite… but you probably guessed that.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

George C. Scott is absolutely perfect as Scrooge. Moreover, David Warner made for a fine and sympathetic Bob Cratchit while Donald Pleasance's daughter Angela impresses as a luminously eerie Ghost of Christmas Past. Plus a very hale'n'hearty Edward Woodward as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

I couldn't agree more about this cast!
Edward Woodward really stands out as the Ghost of Christmas Present. He really brings home some truths to Scrooge merely by throwing his words back in his face.
I had no idea that Donald Pleasance's daughter played the Ghost of Christmas Past.
I liked her 80s punk hair.

Plus Angela Pleasence definitely has her father's high forehead.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

I must watch it again! I usually watch this several times over the holidays…. never get tired of it.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

Also, super familiar character actor Michael Gough as one of the guys asking Scrooge to donate some money for charity. Gough was often cast as sinister villains especially in horror films, so it's nice seeing him portray a more decent and humane person for a change. Moreover, David Warner also is usually cast as hateful villains, so kudos to the casting director for casting both Gough and Warner against type.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

I'll have to look even more closely at the two men on the street with Scrooge.

I first noticed David Warner back in the 70s when The Omen came out in theaters. After that, I looked for him in other films. It had nothing to do with the gruesome death his character endured in that film. It had everything to do with his presence. You are right though. He was such a pleasant surprise as Bob Cratchit.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

Susannah York makes for a pleasingly fiery Mrs. Cratchit as well. York was such a fine actress and a really beautifully woman to boot. I always think of her big crack-up scene in the shower stall in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? when I think of her period.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

Always beautiful.
Same here! She was so memorable in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? I think that most people think of that shower scene when they think of her.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

I like them all but I agree with Margo. This one is the best.

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

I love that scene when he comes to dinner at his nephew's house.
I have so many favorites. The Ghost of Christmas Present at Bob's home. Him flinging Scrooge's words back in his face. That was so good.
I also loved it near the end when Bob comes back to work a bit late. He is so sure he will catch Hell from Scrooge. The shock when he sees the different attitude! Great cast!

Re: This has become one of my favorite versions.

Just gave this one a rewatch. Besides everything else I've already noted on previous responses to this thread, I have to give a special shout out to Frank Finlay's alarmingly intense portrayal of an exceptionally anguished Marley's Ghost. Having Marley remove a cloth around his head that holds his jaw in place so he can talk to Scrooge was a nice creepy touch.

Yes, this is really me.

Hi Panther! Are you about ready for the holidays? Gifts bought? Halls Decked? Ready for fun?
I'm all set. I have to say, I think my tree is prettier than it's ever been.
Ok… I say that just about every year!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Decor is pretty much done. No Christmas present shopping yet. Glad your tree turned out good. I love mine too!

The main theme song is wonderful to listen to (The opening music and end titles with lyrics).
