Mysterious Skin : This film made me question my own childhood

This film made me question my own childhood

Unfortunately I'm a lot like JGL's character in the movie, with the promiscuity and all of that. This made me question a few things that happened in my childhood and I'm currently in regression therapy to try and uncover things I seem to have blocked out.

Just a point that movies like this can SERIOUSLY change your entire life.

You're welcome

Re: This film made me question my own childhood

Good Luck with your therapy. Try to remember to forgive idiots their ignorance, if you uncover any of the fault of others. It will ease your mind to find out and realize that you are a worthy person in this World, even though someone may have tried to convince you otherwise, when you were young and indefensable. I really mean it: Good Luck, and Good Life!

Re: This film made me question my own childhood

Also, be careful of shrinks who might 'brainwash' you into remembering sexual abuse that didn't actually happen (this actually occurs more than you'd think - I'm in the field, I know). So just be extra-cautious, and if possible, make sure to involve people who were trusted adults, at the time of your molestation (or alleged molestation, if that's the case). I'm definitely not saying that it DIDN'T happen to you, but there's been many, many articles published about some very crooked therapists (and actually some well-intended ones) who have you 'remember' things that didn't happen.

Yes be careful! I had a really close friend do that therapy and it ruined an entire family of over 10 people!!!! It wasn't true. So sad.

Re: This film made me question my own childhood

This movie reminded me if being molested after I had supressed the memory for years

Re: This film made me question my own childhood

Me too. Luckily I was only touched by a female teacher. If I had been raped I probably would have been even more screwed up, so it could have been a lot worse. This movie went straight into my top 10 after I saw it the first time.

I Believe in Ben Affleck
