The King of Queens : Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
Yeah they seemed to hate each other towards the end, carrie more so than doug. I feel like she often regretted marrying him but deep down she knew she couldn't have done any better. Especially if she expects every man she's with to take care of her annoying ass father.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
I find some moments in the first couple seasons quite cheesy. Like those cheesy "I love you so much" scenes at the end of the episode when everything was resolved. Like every other sitcom. The more the seasons went on the more they became a real couple and the show grew into it's own.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
I never really thought about it, but you're right. In the beginning Carrie was much more loving, and tolerant about his weight. As the seasons progressed, they both became meaner to each other. I hate it when writers decide that meanness is funny. There's a certain degree of meanness that can be funny, but at times these writers cross the line and it just becomes uncomfortable to watch.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
I have been married nearly 24 years, and it isn't like the marriage gets worse, it just changes.
When you are together at first you are more careful altogether, then you notice the fight about the toilet seat didn't mean the end of the world. Then you think, maybe if I don't freak out every day about the toilet seat, I will be happier. Then you are dealing with the toilet seat every day and it is a trade-off for something disgusting that I do, that he puts up with. It is all about time.

I don't know...I've been married 20 years and I agree that marriages go through ups and downs, but I think Carrie just gets more and more nasty with Doug.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
There was one exchange with me & my husband that reminded me so much of what would happen with Carrie & Doug.
Me & hub were leaving the pharmacy, in the car. He was nonstop griping about something, and I was letting it go on, giving the time to let him get over it. Finally it goes on too long, we are sitting in the car, in the parking lot. We had bought some snack size cakes.
"If you don't shut up, I am going to push one of these cakes right in your face!"
I say finally.
"Go ahead, I like them!" he responds. Just like something Carrie & Doug would say!

Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
That was funny!! I can definitely imagine Doug saying that.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
Well, if you have a positive outlook, you might say that their near split in the finale, as well as having two kids, brought them closer together and made them grow up somewhat. The big mess in the final scene doesn't necessarily mean it was always like that; all families with young kids, even well adjusted ones, go through scenes like that.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
That is what I chose to believe. That all that nastiness was a build up to them splitting up, but once they got to the root of their problems and had kids to focus on, that maybe they had more of a appreciation of each other. Until Arthur moves back in...... then who knows.

Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
It's not that Carrie didn't care about Doug drinking the cleaner/Gatorade (or whatever it was) - it was that she was so used to his antics. She knew he wasn't actually drinking cleaner - he was being silly to get a reaction out of her.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
I was e.g watching an intro to an episode where Doug fills a cleaning fluid bottle with gatorade (or some colored drink) and makes Carrie think he's drinking cleaning fluid and she just didn't give a damn. Couldn't have cared less. That would never have happened in the earlier seasons.
Do you really think he fooled her into thinking he was drinking cleaning fluid?
Pretty sure she just didn't care for his stupid prank.
Re: Their marriage worsened as the seasons went on.
It's a sitcom. It was all played for laughs. Like The Office and all it's cringe comedy.
So many stories, so little time.

It's like their marriage was barely hanging on in the later seasons.
