Watchmen : The end

The end

Surely a sudden massive explosion during such a tense international nuclear stand off would make war more likely, not less?

Has always bugged me - in the graphic novel too.

Re: The end

Maybe, maybe not. After all, first they need to ascertain who fired on them. They don't just launch nukes willy nilly. Once information comes in that several countries are being hit, then they can decide the next course of action.

That being said, the source being an agent of the United States would most definitely make things much worse. Even with the U.S. being hit as well, a lot of countries are going to be looking to blame America.

As for the graphic novel, there was no explosion.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

There certainly was!

Good points otherwise though...

Re: The end

I'm gonna have to re-read. I don't really remember the level of destruction in the graphic novel as there was in the movie.

I always figured it was just a blast of psychic energy.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Re: The end

You should re-read it.There's a huge amount of destruction in the book too.

Re: The end

I guess I just chalk it up to the fact that there were still bodies and buildings, rather than an empty crater like in the movie.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Re: The end

There are buildings and bodies at the end of both! Perhaps you should see the film again too!

Anyone who has read the graphic novel will tell you it ends just as dramatically as the film does.

Re: The end

Not really. Like I said. It's a big ol' crater.

As opposed to the squid ending.

The gn is far more dramatic because we actually see the bodies. There were no bodies in the movie because Dr. Manhattan's power leaves no bodies behind.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

Re: The end

Well at least we've established the explosion definitely occurs in the comic.

Re: The end

I think the fact that Ozy had basically turned everyone against Dr M would change things a bit. Surely, the whole world would be paying attention to what happens with such a figure as Dr Manhattan. Russia would have been just waiting for him to disappear in order to start making their move on the US.

So when Dr M reappears and seems malevolent toward the entire world, I think it makes a little more sense that the major world powers would unite.
