Yellow Submarine : The WORST Beatles songs…

The WORST Beatles songs…

The Beatles obviously have a TON of really good songs. But I'm interested in what people think are the worst Beatles songs. I'll start.

1. Good Morning Good Morning
2. Sun King
3. A Taste of Honey

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Helter Skelter
Dizzy Miss Lizzy
Yellow Submarine (!)

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Two words: Yellow Submarine

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

How could you say this. I love almost all their songs. I could never pick a "worst" song. However, I paticularrly dont care for the songs with East Indian influence, except for Norwegian Wood, and some songs off Revolver that have an Indain flair.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

I like those songs!

SWEENEY TODD BLEEDER!

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Add, "Flying," a song from Magical Mystery Tour. It is just god-awful. "Don't Pass Me By" from The Beatles (The White Album) isn't the best thing they recorded, either.

Beauty may be only skin deep, but arrogance and stupidity go down to the bone.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Originally, it was suggested that "The Beatles" should have been released as a single album with the studio chatter and the weaker songs removed but apparently, the group wanted to release a double album so that's why it came out the way it did. I think that it is a good album but I don't recommend it for someone who is just becoming familiar with the group's music. There are other albums that are better for that.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Take it you're not including "Good Night" or "Act Naturaly", two all time great Beatles tracks.

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

What? Almost all the songs everyone has mentioned are perfectly good songs (except revolution 9)

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

What the hell has everybody got against Revolution 9? It's a great track. I'd certainly rather listen to that than anything on Revolver ('cept "Tomorrow Never Knows"), Rubber Soul ('cept "Nowhere Man"), "Beatles For Sale", or (heaven forbid) ladies and gentlemen I present easily the worst Beatles album ever (even "Beatles Balads" contains an alternative take of "Across the Universe") "Anthology Vol.1"...

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Revolution 9 may strike some people as being chaotic, disturbing, and short on actual singing, for starters.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

:-) I take back my comment about "Revolver" as I turned up an old mono LP copy about a year ago and and it somehow sounds better than the stereo mix used on the cassette edition. It's actualy a pretty good album. "Beatles For Sale" still sucks though...

--- Revolution 9 may strike some people as being chaotic, disturbing, and short on actual singing, for starters. ---

Chaotic and short on actualy singing, true. Disturbing, I don't really know. Maybe if your not familiar with musique concrete or tape music but I can think of 100 records in my collection that are more disturbing than "Revolution 9".

I remember when I first heard it all those years ago I thought it was inspirational that such a famous band could put something so odd on one of their LPs. Sure I now know that Lennon, Harrison and especialy McCartney have all put out even odder stuff ("Scouse the Mouse" is about as weird as Starr ever got, ie not weird at all...), but as some of it is actualy very good ("Liverpool Sound Collage", "Temperary Secretary", "Unfinished Music Vol.2", many of those 1970's Yoko Ono/Lennon collabs...) you can forgive them, I mean have you ever heard Clapton's drum & bass/electro album from a few years back? Believe me it sucks (as opposed to Charlie Watt's which is pretty good)

And now Paul wants Apple/EMI to finaly release "Carnival of Light". I look forward to hearing it, though it apparently sounds a bit "Buddy Guy does Revolution 9" only not as good as you'd imagain it to be concidering that description...

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

A belated thanks for your response.

Of course these comparisons are a matter of opinion. Some days there are Beatles songs which I would avoid in favor of "Revolution 9", but not many of them.

I have met a few people who were disturbed by "Revolution 9", so they must not be familiar with musique concrete. Do you think most Beatles fans are these days?

Glad you found a version of "Revolver" that you actually like, and I agree on "Anthology 1".

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Ah, you have regained credibility.

Oh gravity, thou art a heartless bitch!

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

I was in a bad mood when I made that initial post wasn't I? I still regard Revolver as over rated but why the hate for Rubber Soul? Anthology 1 however is definitely the worst official LP ever to be released under the Beatles brand name.

Who's driving this plane? Stan Butler?

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

To tell the truth, Rubber Soul is my favourite Beatles album and yes, you are right about Anthology, I had forgotten about that. I don't count anything after Let It Be and Abbey Road.
Oh gravity, thou art a heartless bitch!

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

yes Rev.9 might just be a 9 minute deluge of "thoughts".

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect it but by criticising Revolver you have lost all credibility with Beatles fans. Revolution no. 9 is just pure noise and as john Lennon once stated was objective proof that the Beatles could release anything at that time and it would sell.

Oh gravity, thou art a heartless bitch!

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

So I loose "all credibility with Beatles fans" because I don't agree with the consensus? I don't even consider myself a Beatles fan so why you seem to think I would care about such a silly statement I don't know.

Revolution #9 is not pure noise. Also as for it being "objective proof that the Beatles could release anything and it would sell" isn't that a great description of most woman beating, long term heroine addict, neglectful parent, politically naïve and not very intelligent John Lennon's solo career? You've not going to try and tell me the Wedding Album, Imagine, Sometime In New York and Milk & Honey are masterpieces are you? Anyhow I think such bitter comments had more to do with the fact Revolution #9 was Paul's baby and not his.

Who's driving this plane? Stan Butler?

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Actually I said Beatles songs. Lennon on his own wasn't as inventive.

Oh gravity, thou art a heartless bitch!

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

the fact Revolution #9 was Paul's baby and not [John's].
Whoa, there. Revolution 9 was John's (with Yoko) all the way! Paul was thoroughly against it. Some "flipsides" to that situation were Paul's "Birthday", which John was severely disdainful of, "Helter Skelter", which John "washed his hands" of any creative credit for (although he participated in its recording, like the other songs), and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da", which both John and George disliked considerably.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

1. Mr. Moonlight
2. Why Don't We Do It in the Road?
3. Wild Honey Pie

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Mr. Moonlight isn't actually a Beatles song. They just recorded it.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

-----most ringo songs-----

People keep mentioning that song. I don't know it, is it THAT "taste of honey"? If it is, yeah I probably agree with you.

"I think you're a load of old crap too, Mr Mulligan."

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Geez, most of your songs make my favorites list, but I agree about Taste of Honey from their first album. I'm also not too keen on She's Leaving Home, but i've gotten used to it. I guess it's all personal opinion.

Revolution 9

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Revolution 9 is self-indulgent Lennon garbage, and it sequeways into the pitifully saccharine "Goodnight".

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

She's so Heavy, it's got a good beat, but it should of been trimmed down.

It's hard to think of any Beatles songs I'd call the worst, but yeah "A Taste of Honey" is fairly weak, as is "Birthday" (Well, the lyrics at least)

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

'A Taste of Honey' and 'Mr. Moonlight' have both been mentioned a few times - neither of them were written by The Beatles - they are cover versions!

'She's so Heavy' works really well on CD because it cuts off suddenly and moves straight into 'Here Comes the Sun' - this change is really cool! (On the Vinyl version you had to turn the record over at this point... I think....)

Probably the worst song is 'You know my Name, Look up the Number'

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Mr Moonlight, Wild Honey Pie, You Like Me Too Much, Dizzy Miss Lizzy (thin sounding guitar riff repeated 200 times), She's a Woman (weak lazy lyrics), Tell Me Why, Yes It Is (rip off of This Boy)

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

mainly earlier stuff

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Michelle, Ma Belle. The absolute worst Beatles song ever.

Michelle
Writers: Lennon, McCartney; lead vocal: McCartney

Michelle, ma belle.
These are words that go together well,
My Michelle.

Michelle, ma belle.
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble,
Tres bien ensemble.

I love you, I love you, I love you.
That's all I want to say.
Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand.

I need to, I need to, I need to
I need to make you see,
Oh, what you mean to me.
Until I do I'm hoping you will
Know what I mean.

I love you.

I want you, I want you, I want you.
I think you know by now
I'll get to you somehow.
Until I do I'm telling you so
You'll understand.

Michelle, ma belle.
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble,
Tres bien ensemble.
I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand, my Michelle.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

I think "Baby You Can Drive My Car" is the worst. Whichever one that one is.

It's so redundant, tedious, and the "Beep Beep Beep" part makes me want to shoot myself. It's way too poppy and puke-endearing for me.

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

Aw jeez, you guys! I like pretty much all of these.
Now 'Blue Jay Way' - there is one arduous slog!

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

The beatles have no bad songs

Re: The WORST Beatles songs…

I agree with you, however, there are a few not as good, but that was long ago and those who don't like some are probably not old enough to appreciate them as we do. P.S. Love your screen name...very tasty!
