Politics : So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

I am curious why you care so much for US politics. You've made it clear you don't like the nation so why do you persist in this obsession?

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

Ah well. And where would the suspense be otherwise?

Post Scriptum : I never said that I hate the nation

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

That's no suspense dude; it's obsession!

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

Many of my European friends on social media talk about our politics constantly. It's common.

Yea Europeans care about American politics a lot.

Not only because it's entertaining as hell but also because it's important to them and affects their lives.

Yes many do. Many do in a manner that makes them think we actually care what they think though. #1776

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

None of it is real because it has little impact on life.

The average American doesn't know who she is or would even care.

The same goes for most political figures.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

I'm not a Republican but I do think that if Abraham Lincoln had seen what Donald Trump turned the Republican Party into, I think he would be disgusted by it.

The Republican Party has become totally and completely different than it was when Lincoln was President.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

If JFK had seen what the liberals have done to the Democrat party HE would be disgusted.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

lincoln wouldnt recognize what has happened to the party he made.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

The Republican Party has been derailed, so Lincoln would be appalled.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

Agreed!

I will say it again, He would be absolutely disgusted by it.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

And Teddy Roosevelt's and Eisenhower's and Nixon's and Reagan's and Smart Bush's and Idiot Bush's party, etc. A lot of changes took place in that party over the years. Eisenhower, Nixon and possibly even Reagan wouldn't recognize the GOP of the past 20 years or so - it's changed THAT drastically, first, under the neocons and then under Trump.

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

Trump was supposed to win the election

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

The Republican Party and the Democratic Party have switched roles, or wings.

The Republics in the 19th century and up to Teddy Roosevelt were the progressive party. The Democratic Party was dominated by entrenched Dixiecrat southerners and was the conservative party.

The Depression in the 1920's changed the dynamic and the Republicans became the party of the elite while the Democrats became a party of economic reformers.

Franklyn Roosevelt sealed the deal with the the New Deal and the Democrats became quasi "socialists".

Re: So the republican party is Lincoln's party, right?

The modern Republican party is still Reagan's party, but Trumpism could take on that role in the near future. The new crop of Republican politicians have little regard for the old ways of the Washington establishment.
