The SNP's idea of an independent Scotland is to rejoin the EU, rejoin NATO and maintain the monarchy. This isn't a "socialist dream". Our union with England has existed since 1707 and we've had increasing devolution over the last few decades, resulting the creation of a separate parliament in 1997, which devolves matters such as agriculture, fisheries, forestry and rural development, culture, economic development, education and training, the environment, fire and rescue services and the promotion of fire safety, food, health and health services, housing, justice and policing, local government, public administration, social welfare, sport and recreation, tourism, town and country planning, water and flood defence. Reserved matters are the Crown, the constitution, foreign policy, international trade, defence. There was further devolution in 2014 after the referendum with the Smith Commission. The SNP gained power in 2007 and child poverty in Scotland has only gotten worse since then. Talk of "independence" is pure political opportunism and a distraction. We can be unified against a Conservative government without wanting independence. This isn't even getting to such debates over currency, a hard border, the decline of the oil industry, Scotland's deficit, the complete breakup of the union. Likewise with Irish reunification, I suspect most non-Brits don't grasp the complexities of the discussion to have an informed stance.

Anybody who doesn't like or want a second referendum will be contravening the will of the Scottish electorate. If you can't handle that then leave Scotland.
