Halloween III: Season of the Witch : Scare factor is far higher than any of the "Michael Myers" movies.

Scare factor is far higher than any of the "Michael Myers" movies.

I'm not saying it's a masterpiece. It's not by any stretch of the imagination. But there are a couple of genuinely creepy scenes which are effective in creeping me out more than I ever was watching Michael Myers shuffling towards a crawling victim with the inevitable steak knife kill. Even the movie poster scares me more than Myers walking around in that stupid William Shatner mask.

I agree. It was all downhill after the first film, except for III, which was uphill relative to II.

Well of course it is. One, it's not a knife movie, it's a pod movie. Androids, masks, evil toy makers. Nothing at all to do with the slasher genre. If you watch Carpenter's work from this era post Halloweens, The Fog, the Thing, Escape from NY, etc. they all fit into this category. Even Prince of Darkness. Carpenter made some decent diverse films during this time. Not box office hits, but cult classics.
