Best and Worst : Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

I just finished watching the entire film for the very first time. I've seen bits and parts throughout the years but never the whole movie from beginning to end.

I gotta say that this is probably the scariest horror movie. It beats The Shinning, Hellraiser, The Exorcist and Halloween, NOES, and The Evil Dead.

Absolutely horrifying.

10/10

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

6.5/10

For realism, sure, it has those others beat.
But I find the others more entertaining.
You just saw it, so it currently seems better.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The realism is what makes it the scariest. No special effects, no animatronic creatures, no tricks, great acting. I dunno exactly why it's got all other horror movies beat but it does.

And I've watched it's competition. Some of them more than once way before I've seen TCM(1974)

👍

I wouldn't say it's the scariest movie I have ever seen, but people are different.
I do agree that this was scary, possibly because you could imagine yourself in that situation due to the realism.

You asked a pretty question; I've given you the ugly answer.
Fasten Your Seatbelts….
It's Going To Be A Bumpy Night!

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

This! The director was able to make me kind of feel what the victims were feeling. Especially the final girl. The close ups of her completely traumatized and screaming like that. And after she jumped out of the window to escape, I was yelling at the tv screen " Girl you better get up and RUN!"

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Definitely scary as hell and because it was low budgeted and unpolished, it make it feel more realistic and gritty. It's the only horror film I still can't watch alone in the dark.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Honestly I thought I knew what was scary…until I watched this film all the way through. It deserves to be at the top of the horror genre.

And it's not that it's low budget cuz I've seen low budget horror flicks. It's just all the components from start to finish.

And no I didn't scream in terror. But I was horrified. The very definition of horror. It's supposed to make you feel horrified at the story, the plot and the visuals.

I guess cuz the killers were so sick and sadistic and RELENTLESS and unpredictable.

I've known people on drugs and having a mental illness that act just like the young hitchhiker the group gives a ride to. People like that are real.

No they didn't try to kill me but they would fucked up shit like what he was doing. The cutting, and taunting and acting crazy like that.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

It actually was low budget, but Tobe Hooper was a great director. I know what you mean about low budget movies though, many of them look like crap.

Hooper produced the film for less than $140,000 ($800,000 adjusted for inflation)[4] and used a cast of relatively unknown actors drawn mainly from central Texas, where the film was shot. The limited budget forced Hooper to film for long hours seven days a week, so that he could finish as quickly as possible and reduce equipment rental costs

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Okay why are you telling me that. I never once said the movie wasn't low budget. I know it's low budget. I knew of the movie before I'd watched it all.

What I'm saying is that you were saying that it being low budget was what made it more realistic but that wasn't the case at all. Cuz I've seen low budget horror movies before with a less budget.

What's your point, ugly?

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

bitch ya so ugly cats tried to bury you when you played in the sandbox as a kid!

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

I'm a goddess compared to your ugly face. There's no possible way that your wife is good looking cuz no mildly attractive woman would ever have sex with you unless she were a sex worker or you drugged her or she was trying to get back at her ex

or i'm loaded like scrooge mcduck

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Why did you come into my thread to argue with me.

I asked people to rate the movie. You haven't even seen it so you don't belong here

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

I didn't come to argue.
I made a simple comment that was in line with your OP. You're just a hatchet faced cunt

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

And I simply said that it was your loss. Then you started arguing with me. Why'd you do that?

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

You're such a lying sack of ape shit

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The posts don't lie. Why would you get bent outta shape cuz someone replied "your loss" on a topic asking people that have seen TCM to rate it and you ain't even seen the movie but wanna act like you're left out??

Maybe you should have watched the movie, dumbass.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

It's almost perfect, but the stiff woth Grandpa is hokey.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

I felt like that was one of the scariest scenes.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

I love fantasy horror but this was supposed to be based in reality, and it didn't feel realistic to have the zombie like grandfather.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

OMG you're complaining about nothing. Obviously the movie is fantasy.

He wasn't a zombie. He was just extremely OLD and probably wearing a mask like Leatherface

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Yes, all fiction is technically fantasy, but this film is going for a gritty realistic tone not supernatural stuff. The grandpa looks way too dead. It's hokey.

It's not supposed to be a mask like Leatherface's.

ᴳᵒ ᶠᵘᶜᵏ ʸᵒᵘʳˢᵉˡᶠ

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Actually it was going for survival horror and terror.

Gritty means this
showing courage and resolve.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

It's a horror story going for realism and inspired by real life serial killers/cannibals. The grandpa was silly and unrealistic.

Are you really trying to win this argument with semantics? Bitch pls

ᴳᵒ ᶠᵘᶜᵏ ʸᵒᵘʳˢᵉˡᶠ

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Honestly did you really believe a family of cannibals like that wouldn't have been apprehended when in real life, the most prolific serial killers are tracked down and arrested and sentenced to death or life in prison?

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

9 out of 10 from me. It has this very strong and pervasive sense of absolute dread that's well sustained throughout.

Yes, this is really me.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

What's number one horror movie in your opinion?

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

I hate horror that is shot in the dark and depends on jump scares and sudden noises for frights. TTCM was out in the light and the scares came at you one after the other. Brutally terrifying and 10/10 from me.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The sequel relied on those tricks. I turned it off in the middle. It was terrible.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

The sequel was a typical 80's slasher film. I liked it when it came out but it really doesn't hold up well and is very dated looking now. I'd say it's a slightly better than average slasher film but it lacks the rawness and grittiness (and timelessness) of the original TCM. At least Tobe Hooper directed it, unlike all the other sequels (and the remake and prequel) which were done by other directors.

Re: Rate The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

A little early to be watching this but I rate it 9 out of 10, Donna.
