Question about the future release of this version of The Fifth Element.

It says 4K restoration. I only have a 1080p TV will it really matter? I keep seeing 4K restored movies but do they only help quality if you have a 4K TV?

Re: Question about the future release of this version of The Fifth Eleme

Scanning films at 4K instead of 1080p or 2K allows for more detail and color in the uncompressed source file, which results in a better-quality image when downscaled to 1080p. So yes, you will notice the difference between this and the original BD. Plus this version has Dolby Atmos audio, which is nice if you have an audio system with at least 7.1 speakers.

Thank you for this!

Re: Question about the future release of this version of The Fifth Eleme

I hope they don't f-ck up the color and contrast like Paramount's colorists did with the 4k "remaster" of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Proper color timing and contrast, to make a film look true to its original release version and present the full image quality inherent in the original film negative, is equally as important as resolution.

AND one of the latest A/V receivers, who actually has Dolby Atmos support.

Re: Question about the future release of this version of The Fifth Eleme

Any standard 7.1 system will benefit from the downmixed TrueHD core track compared to standard TrueHD 7.1, due to the surround-extension matrix incorporated into the stream. It works on the same principle as a surround-encoded stereo track, just with extra channels.
