Buffy the Vampire Slayer : Question about SMG's hair…

Question about SMG's hair…

We all know that SMG's a natural brunette, and she looks gorgeous as one (Cruel Intentions). However, she's most known as Buffy, who most of the time has hair color ranging from almost platinum to strawberry blonde. My question is since she had kept that color for seven seasons, did that mean that she had her hair bleached and dyed all the time? I just had my hair bleached some weeks ago. I looked amazing LOL but the black-jet roots started to come out as early as two weeks, which annoyed me very much. If my calculation is correct, then that means SMG touched up her roots every two weeks over the course of the show. Wouldn't that be dangerous? I mean my head was still burning from the first time I was bleached (I thought it was supposed to be like that. I was surprised when I found out how horrible other people had it with the chemical reactions, some even got their whole face swollen). I couldn't imagine having it fried off four times a month, let alone seven years. By the way, I'm a guy, so forgive me if I sound stupid.

Re: Question about SMG's hair…

I would suppose so, but it's the nature of changing your hair color. More often than not, she went for a more natural blonde look, at times with some darker and lighter variations; and I'm sure if you scrutinized the series, there might be times her darker roots are noticeable. Her natural color, what I've seen of it, isn't dark, dark; and with the right colorist, she might have been able to get away with blending it somehow - that sort of thing isn't remotely my specialty, but I would expect she'd have options to maintain it with only some mild hassle. And there's always invariable a treatment regiment to keep the hair from getting fried.

Now on the other hand, James Marsters (Spike) is on the record for the lengths he had to go, to maintain the platinum look for Spike. He legitimate did have to bleach it, and said it would get to be painful sometimes, more so because it would irritate his skin, and he'd have scabs in his scalp that would fall off during shooting. At first, he said, it was distressing, but then it became old hat, even for his costars. I believe he's since sworn to never bleach his hair again, after Buffy and Angel ended; even if he were asked to play Spike again, which he's said he'd be willing to do (providing he felt he hadn't aged too noticeably).
Years ago, in some obscure interview with James, that I haven't seen since; I seem to recall him saying something along the lines of adding a packet of Sweet n' Low or something, to the bleach helped take the sting out of it. Though I've never even bleached my hair, let alone tried that to see if it works.

On that note, I've also heard David Boreanaz had his hair relaxed in order to achieve the super spiky look. His hair changes from the first couple episodes from wavy to stick straight, which could've simply been a flat iron, but I dunno...using gel/pomade/etc that isn't petroleum-based would've started to be noticeable if that was the case. It also gets super wavy/almost curly during season 5 when he grows it out for a bit.

Cena doesn't overcome any odds. He's a wrestler with a God Mode cheat on.

Re: Question about SMG's hair…

I have medium/light brown hair i dye blond and it's light enough that I don't have to use bleach, I imagine SMG wouldn't either. The box of dye does the trick ... my roots begin to show maybe a month in? Girls hair takes a bit longer To notice I think because y can really only see the roots at the part.

I've dyed my hair pretty consistently since 2005, it's not the healthiest I suppose but it's not super noticeable. People comment that i have soft hair that don't even know I'm a fake blond

Re: Question about SMG's hair…

Didn't really notice Buffys hair all that much, but I did notice that Anyas hair changes in almost every episode. Crazy amounts of color and style changes.

Re: Question about SMG's hair…

I'm afraid I don't know much at all about dyeing hair but regarding SMG, her dark roots were quite visible on the season 4 promo shots:

I (randomly) remember an interview Sarah did quite a few years back where she mentioned she was keeping up her colour "in the kitchen sink" i.e. doing it herself, but I think that was during her back-to-brunette days when she made "The Return" and "Suburban Girl."

They've been advertising these non-dye root touch up applicators on UK television - Magic Touch by L'Oreal: http://www.loreal-paris.co.uk/hair-colour/magic-retouch. Most likely better for your hair, but probably a daily styling thing. You'd think by now they would've figured out gentler, healthier ways of dyeing and bleaching hair...

Re: Question about SMG's hair…

I have dark dishwater blonde hair that I have bleached. I've never had any reactions to the process. My colorist uses a different process than most salons do. Most salons color hair by foiling it. When you use this process the color doesn't get as close to yourscalp so the roots grow out faster which means you have to come back in more often to maintain the color. My hairdresser uses the cap method (looks like a thin foam swimmers cap). They place a cap on your head and pull your hair though it using a special tool (looks similar to a knitting needle) This part is painful. I kind of look like a toy dolls hair at this point. Then she applies the bleach let's it sit rinses then paints in red
highlights to blend all the colors. I have it redone about every 6-8 months. I've been told the grow out looks like an ombre style.

Re: Question about SMG's hair…

Most paparazzi photos are of Sarah leaving the hairdressers every month so I'm sure she doesn't do it herself. Sarah is known for her blonde hair so I'm sure she takes care of it.

In Season 2, 4 and 7 her hair is very blonde so I would say it requires more upkeep and regular bleaching, however the other seasons, especially 1 & 6 her hair is close to her natural colour and could stretch it out a fair bit.

I personally think her hair looks the best in season 7. Stunning blonde colour & length that suites SMG.
