Politics : Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

When you think about it, he only targeted corporate and government buildings. Wasn't right to use passenger planes, and a lot of the workers were just regular people, but at least he didn't target a hospital.

We always justify these things when America does them because we're supposedly fighting for what's right, but it's exactly how they feel. Osama had mentioned that he didn't like the US involvement and support of Israel.

I don't agree that he wasn't that bad but I do agree we justify similar things when America does them.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

That was more a provocative statement to get the attention, but yeah, the US is just as evil. We've probably done thebequiavkent of aeveral 9/11s. The reason thatbwas so shockingbwas because it's so rare to happen on American soil.

The Taliban voming to power has a lot to do with the US crusade agaisnt communism.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

The second paragraph… thats the nature of propaganda; the create a certain narrative reality for the populace that keeps them supporting the interests of those in power and not burning it all down, and maintaining the cognitive dissonance to hold those conceptually opposing values. We so often think of it as something old, that all those dictators used; but simultaneously within our cultural lexicon have Orwell and Chomsky and so on pointing out, "no, it's present". It's curious to me the things people can understand theoretically but never really internalize or externalize their awareness of its affects… it looms compartmentalized as another doctrine or discussion point or thing to agree on/bond over within one's social group (a tribal badge).

We're all propagandized, but the propaganda - as successful propaganda is - is so interwoven with our personal relationships, or understanding of a way of life (work, make money, crash and spend that money on keurigs and lawnmowers and streaming services, etc…). It doesn't stand out as propaganda… it subtly infects all minds until it seems to express as some abstract common sense suggested in everything we see and do and everyone we interact with, continually reinforced.

Anywayzzz… idk. It's funny to me, the little cages we all build. But yeah. As a more recent example, if a nation we were at war with bombed a refugee camp, that would be unjustifiable - going full psycho on that country would have overwhelming public support (just as 9/11 did, America's own actions in the broader extended conflict years, and continued intervention, not worth even mentioning in America's discourse). Israel does it… uh, let's try to see if they'd be cool with a ceasefire, maybe, for a bit? Don't wanna cramp their style, keep bombing refugee camps - were the good guys, it's cool, *reasons*

Very few people hold values; most hold doctrines they mistake for such

so a person opposed to the subjugation, exploitation, marginalization of women, gays, lesbians, etc. is equally justified in attacking "goverment" buildings in arab cities. do you object?

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

When did America do anything like 9/11? I wish they would go after Muslims with that same sort of viciousness without any regard to civilian casualties.

And why wouldn't America support the only Jewish state left in the world and the only real democracy in the Middle East? It only makes sense.

Muslims number around 2,000,000,000 globally.

Jews are around 15,000,000 and nearly half of that number lives in Israel. The other half in the United States.

Again, it only makes sense the United States would be allied with Israel.

Muslims are almost entirely against everything the United States stands for.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

From the top of my head, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

ᴳᵒ ᶠᵘᶜᵏ ʸᵒᵘʳˢᵉˡᶠ

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Two bombs that were dropped to put an end to WWII.

Imagine if those insane Muslims in the Middle East had such firepower.

They would immediately incinerate Israel.

So? USA will get nuked in the near future

Karma for Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Putting aside whether that's true or not, it still killed many innocent civilians. Way more than 9/11. Stop moving the goalposts.

World leaders will always have an excuse for the innocent deaths, and we are still ruled by the same pieces of shit in different flavors.

I want power to the people, not Muslims, not Christians, not Jews, not a group of elitists, etc.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Putting aside the fact the Japans attacked us at Pearl Harbor, brutalized and murdered POWs and did the same to the natives in most of the islands they occupied throughout all of WWII or the millions of Chinese put to death by the Japanese.

Let's also put aside the fact the Axis powers would not have hesitated to drop the hydrogen bomb on us.

Let's put that aside the fact that if there is one group of people in world history who doesn't care about civilian casualties, it is Muslims. On the contrary, they use them as shields.

But never put aside the 'atrocities' committed by America.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Neither did the Americans who bombed those Japanese cities. It wasn't all military there. It was mostly civilians.

ᴳᵒ ᶠᵘᶜᵏ ʸᵒᵘʳˢᵉˡᶠ

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

I mean, those bombs were dropped in the middle of a war after Japan attacked the US. And for what it's worth, they did give warnings and dropped leaflets over the cities well before, telling people to get out. Not saying that justifies anything, but comparing the dropping of the bombs to 9/11 is completely different. One was during a war after provocation and given warning beforehand, the other was a coordinated attack, without warning against regular citizens. Not the same thing. I will still make the case for the moral argument of dropping the bombs, because we haven't had any wars even close to as deadly since WW2.

World leaders will always have an excuse for the innocent deaths, and we are still ruled by the same pieces of shit in different flavors.
This is correct, and you're so close to being there, hopefully one day you will embrace libertarianism and realize your push for massive government overreach is terrible.
I want power to the people
No you don't, as you have never advocated for that. You want power to the government to force everyone else to live by what you classify as the power of the people. In your head you believe you have good intent, but overall your ideology is evil and you believe you're the moral authority over everyone.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

They have their own similar justifications, like American imperialism and our support of Israel. Talking seriously, I don't support the killing of civilians for any reason from any side. Made thia provocative/troll thread to demonstrate the similarities.

I literally want actual democracy.

I am not against libertartianism… just suppprt the left winged variety that oppposes corporate power as well as state.
Capitalism isn't a far cry from feudalism.

Agreed. I'm with you there.

I know. Not me. Democracy is dogshit. It's mob rule. It's two wolves and a sheep voting on what to eat for dinner. I prefer individual liberty.
I am not against libertartianism… just suppprt the left winged variety that oppposes corporate power as well as state.
"Corporate power" tends to only happens when the government gets involved. I'd prefer a free market, rather than government pushing down these oppressive regulations and taxes the large businesses can afford but smaller competitors can't.

You know what is more dogshit than majority rule? Minority rule. That's the opposite of freedom.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

What do you mean by individilual liberty? How do you decide policy with individual liberty?

Do you support the way things are set up now where am electoral college decides and swathes of land instead of the population's votes count?

That's dumb. Corporate power would still exist with laissez-faire capitalism. Inherited wealth would still exist. Exploitation of labor would still exist.

Socialists don't support cronyism any more than libertarians do.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

I do, because we're a country of states, people in FL and TX live differently than people in CA and NY. I'd be on board with a popular vote if we stripped the federal government of the vast majority of their powers and just keep them in charge of national defense. But we've massively expanded the scope and power of the Federal government, so no, I'm not on board with a popular vote.
That's dumb. Corporate power would still exist with laissez-faire capitalism.
"Corporate power" in a free market can only exist so long as that corporation is able to provide something of value that people will voluntarily pay for.
Inherited wealth would still exist.
Lol, so what? There's nothing wrong with that. Lol, how is what someone else leaves for their family any of your fucking business? You entitled, envious douche.
Exploitation of labor would still exist.
Voluntary and mutual agreements between employers and employees is not an exploitation of labor. This is where you're getting into everyone needs to live their lives by your personal standards you arbitrarily set yourself, as if it's completely up to you to make decisions for everyone else.
Socialists don't support cronyism any more than libertarians do.
They support massive government force on others and deny individual liberty because they themselves are useless entitled fucks who contribute nothing.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

1. Hiroshima and Nagasaki were both military targets, the World Trade Center was not

2. They were necessary because the Japanese were too stubborn to surrender in conventional warfare. Even after the bombings, it took nearly a month for them to finally give up.

3. Morality in a conflict isn't determined by body count.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Why does that matter? They had civilians in these locations. All the 9/11 targets had both corporate and government leaders.

So, the ends justify the means? So, opponents of American imperialism and capitalism are right to support 9/11.

Re: Osama Bin Laden wasn't that bad of a guy

Collateral damage versus premeditated murder. Learn the difference, asswipe.

Imperialism and capitalism results in better economies and better lives. Not comparable at all to the actions of the Japanese military in WW2 or religious fanatics waging holy war.
