The Last of Us : One thing I didnt like about Joel

One thing I didnt like about Joel

Was his lack of not caring about Tess death. He never really said anything about her, and didn't seem effected. Not good writing on that part.

Re: One thing I didnt like about Joel

No, the opposite. Joel lack of feelings is something very interesting about him. Only , at very end of the game, he started to feel something, a paternal feeling, with Ellie.
Do you remember when he saw his daughter photo at Tommys house ?, he didnt care !!!, much less he would care about Tess.
the last of us script is amazing.

Re: One thing I didnt like about Joel

I don't think it's that he didn't care it's just the way Joel dealt with things that were sad or terrible. He would try to forget it. He would not mention it and refuse to acknowledge it. Just like how he refuses to talk about Sarah with Ellie.

That's part of his character arc. In the beginning he refuses to mention anything about his past. Ellie breaks down his barriers and he is willing to open up and remember things from his past.

Re: One thing I didnt like about Joel

Joel did care but did not want to ever talk about his feelings or about Tess when she died. He told Ellie not to ever mention Tess. He wanted to forget about it because some people cannot deal with it.

Re: One thing I didnt like about Joel

Of course he cared. That is why it was a thing. He would bury it or forget it because it was too terrible to deal with. It was genius how that wrote that in. People grieve in different ways, not always in healthy ways, especially in t his broken world. Not many counselors around, ya know?

Re: One thing I didnt like about Joel

Compartmentalization. His way of dealing with tragedies was.. well, not dealing with it. He forced himself, and Ellie, to move on.

Re: One thing I didnt like about Joel

^ yup, this

because in his world not moving on-- literally and figuratively-- was death

we also saw it when he got angry at Ellie for wanting to talk about the death of the black kid
