There Will Be Blood : Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
It is quite remarkable.
I enjoy exposing this movie to many people and sharing the joy that they feel when they view it.

I agree. While THERE WILL BE BLOOD isn't exactly one of my favorite films, it certainly is one of the best that I've seen. Truly masterful filmmaking.
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
You know what "objectively" means, right?
"You'll be taking a soul train straight to a disco inferno where you never can say goodbye!"
"You'll be taking a soul train straight to a disco inferno where you never can say goodbye!"
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
I do, otherwise I wouldn't have used it. But what's your point?
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
You can say that you feel that X is objectively good, but that has nothing to do with reality.
You can never say that you feel something objectively.
Also, this movie was *beep*

Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
I didn't say anything about my feelings, so I don't know who you're arguing with. I talked about the quality of acting, script, cinematography and score, and there are objective factors by which you can determine whether a script (for example) is excellent, good, mediocre or straight up bad. Whether the film is something you like or enjoy watching is a different argument.
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
The quality of those elements you mention are determined by a combination of a person's emotional and intellectual capabilities, so how would you have possibly judged the score or acting?
You can have objective criteria for what makes a film 'good', but these criteria, in the minds of individuals, are fulfilled differently, by different things, hence subjectivity exists.
And honestly, what in the world is the point of coming to an objective conclusion about the quality of a PIECE OF ART?? It's all about one's unique emotional and intellectual interpretation. Supposed know-it-alls who deem a film or whatever other type of artwork you care to mention as objectively good/bad FAIL to abide by this crucial tenet of art. Art was never meant to have a single correct interpretation. Discussions and debates are all good fun and stuff, but nobody is really 'wrong'. You're splitting hairs.

Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
Sorry, but if you're evaluating the quality of something, it is subjective. That's just factual. It is logically impossie to have an objective viewpoint on a film.
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
So, you're telling me that we cannot make an objective statement that The Room (2003) is a worse movie than, let's say, American Beauty. And the claim that Kevin Spacey's acting in American Beauty is better than Tommy Wiseau's in The Room is only subjective, right? You wouldn't say that objectively the overall quality of American Beauty (acting, script, directing) is better than that of The Room?
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
You're using opinion and preferences to pander to spacemonkey95, for them to perceive your statement as fact. Right...
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
This is why movie viewing experience or artistry in general is so great. In general a movie like this can be well received, but what makes it great for me will probably be different than why it would be great for you and vica versa.
But in general there is a lot of thought, love and creativity put into this by masters of their craft. Eventually what you get is this magnificent piece of film in which everyone can find something that they love and appreciate.

Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
Your description to back up your assertion that his is the Best movie you've ever seen is mostly a subjective one. It can only be Objective if you stated every other movie you have ever seen and matched it against the criteria of this one to conclude that it is the best one out of the lot of films you have viewed.
Re: Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
Objectively?
Objectively this might be the best movie I have ever seen
Truly a cinematic masterpiece!
