American Horror Story : Jumped the Shark

Jumped the Shark

So many great shows knew when to quit at their peak. It's a shame AHS didn't. What an awful season season six was in so many ways. It was an absolute chore to even stay with and watch to the end, and it just got worse, and worse, and worse, even though it started weak and bad and awful.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Absolutely. The show was all over the place. I can't believe they actually pulled a Blair witch. It was just terrible. No imagination. Just a complete ripoff of every other lame horror things

Is your remote control broken?

Re: Jumped the Shark

I understand the what the OP was saying. It was a chore for me too. And no my remote was not broken. When you are invested in a series you feel compelled to stick with a season you don't like because you:

Have faith in the Creator if the show because he hasn't let you down before.

Sometimes there is a twist that ties everything together and gives you an ah ha moment.

You hope that it will get better.

You don't want to jump off the AHS rollacoaster before it stops because you might regret it.

Re: Jumped the Shark

You've given an explanation, and that's cool. The OP did not. If it started bad for him and was a chore from the outset, then kept getting worse and worse, find something else to do that;s rewarding. I dont understand people who battle on with a show when there is absolutely nothing redeeming in their eyes. I seriously dont remember hate watching being such a thing when I was a kid. It's rampant on imdb.

Re: Jumped the Shark

danloki, I'm with you, If I'm not enjoying a show I will not force myself to watch it. I will read a book, do chores around the house - anything, before I force myself to watch something I'm not liking.

Re: Jumped the Shark

The only one I forced myself to watch was TWD, Mel. After the old vet got snuffed I lost any connection with the characters, but I kept watching sort of (I kept falling asleep) because my husband likes it. Glad I stuck with it because the introduction of Negan actually puts some personality back into the show. I never hate watched it, though. I just didnt care who lived or died, and I found the blocking terrible so the talky scenes couldnt even engage my eye. If my eye is not engaged I stop listening. I read a good article about that the other day. I'll find it for you.👍

The guy playing Negan is excellent.

Re: Jumped the Shark

I think the only time I actually detested him was when he bashed his wife.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Here's the article. This might make sense to the people not liking a show (any show), especially if it;s dialogue heavy. I totally relate to this. Maybe some people not liking this season are not liking the framing/blocking.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Great article! I agree completely and the examples used in the article were perfect to illustrate the point.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Makes perfect sense to me.

I think another aspect is connection with the characters. Some posters complaining about this season (or other seasons) have said they didnt like any of the characters. I've never had a disconnect from characters in this show (except for maybe Stevie Nicks) but I can understand their disappointment when that happens. We saw Dont Breathe on the weekend. I thought the trailer looked great and I was really keen to see this, but I felt absolutely nothing for anyone in it. Very disappointing.

Re: Jumped the Shark

STFU

Re: Jumped the Shark

That's not very nice.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Stop telling people they owe you an explanation of why they kept watching this garbage season . Maybe people like the show overall and were hoping it would get better , not continually worse . It was so bad it jangled my nerves . If you felt at home with all the cheesy social media/reality tv/vicarious existence commentary , then get help! It's a good show and we were not expecting this trash , wasted our time and annoyed the hell out of people. Horrible writers . Only dummies who can "relate" Or feel they "get it" because they live on social media, are entertained, it speaks their language. It wasn't that profound to consider itself dissecting social ills & decline. It was sewage and if you liked it well good for you!

Re: Jumped the Shark

Why do I need to get help? I'm not the one whose nerves were jangled by watching a show I dont like I also dont feel the need to tell someone to STFU.

It seems the recent super moon is still jangling some posters' nerves, wild.

Re: Jumped the Shark

um, this dankoli stalks me on the board, he badgers me and others for having an opinion so address it to him next time.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Are you always paranoid or is the entire world out to get you? If you dont want me responding to you dont address me. Pretty simple. And the first comment you replied to had zero to do with you so stop your bleating.

I dont have psychic abilities either. I dont know who that poster is and never noticed them before I was told to STFU for a comment that had nothing to do with her.

Re: Jumped the Shark

I have no idea, my friend.

Damnit. My computer just switched itself off and I had a recipe on the screen I wanted to try for our dinner tonight. It's goneski😭

Re: Jumped the Shark

You seem very angry and defensive about this topic, I didn't see anyone "demand" an explanation from anyone - just discussion going on. Also, there is no need to insult and overgeneralize about the people that liked Season 6, you don't know anyone's specific interests, likes if they are even on social media. It's just a show, in the grand scheme of things it's not that serious.

Re: Jumped the Shark

She obviously doesnt like being involved in discussions on social media and that's why she's carrying around a huge chip on each shoulder, feeling the need to tell posters to STFU and FO amongst other things. Lovely vocabulary.

Re: Jumped the Shark

My goodness, it's TV show. Definitely not worth getting so worked up or being so hostile towards other posters. I feel like because I liked Season 6, that must mean I'm scum of the earth (according to her theory). The funny thing is I'm never on social media (I don't even have a Instagram), unheard of I know, I never use Facebook and never watch reality TV, except cooking shows (but they don't count).

Re: Jumped the Shark

It's funny how a tv show has the power to cause such angst, isnt it.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Yes, it's amazing as much as I love AHS, in the grand scheme of things it so very trivial in comparison. So, love season 6, like it, don't like it or hate it, but those are opinions, they aren't written in stone somewhere. Honestly, an individual may dislike Season 6 right now and binge watch it at a later day and find they like it. That's the great thing about opinions, they are flexible, they can change.

Re: Jumped the Shark

You don't want to jump off the AHS rollacoaster before it stops because you might regret it.

Roller coaster references?

I'm really starting to like this dcorriere dude

Less than forget. But more than begun.

Re: Jumped the Shark

You're gonna regret it, you're gonna regret it.

Oops, now I have that happy song that played when the evil ginger twins went baseball batty in the murder house.

Re: Jumped the Shark

I just don't relate. I don't know why TV is so hard for people these days. It should never be taken that seriously. It's always voluntary. If you continue to put yourself in the path of disappointment, it's your fault, not the TV show's.

But so what if you've seen something that wasn't as good as you thought it was? It happens to everybody and most get over it. It's not like a serious relationship with someone. It's just TV. Most TV shows will disappoint eventually. It used to be something people took in stride, not they get all hurt, angry or indignant about it.

I became disappointed in Lost after season 2,Heroes after season 2, and Dexter after season 4, but it didn't resonate that deeply, I just watched something else.
Once I'm done, I stop thinking about them. If they get good after I stop watching I can always go back and see if I missed something these days but I don't hang around like a drug addict longing for that same first high. Lol

When the "TV rollercoaster" stops being fun, the ride has ended and you're free to get off of it.

By the way, Jump the Shark refers to a show that's lost popularity and does something majorly out of character or trendy to regain lost viewers. This show hasn't lost viewers and it's always been pulling different stunts, styles, and premises. They've always been al over the place.

Re: Jumped the Shark

I was indignant when Ashraf Barhom was fridged in Tyrant, and Ron Perlman in SoA. That's just rude.

When Dexter seriously nosedived in the final season I just turned my thinking around and viewed it as an unintentional comedy. Much more fun than hate watching. Why watch a show that wastes energy on hate when you can laugh instead.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Yeah, I can laugh at the stupidity of some shows, but when they only make me mad, I move on. When people continue to watch something they know they hate, they seem like delusional masochists.

I was dosappointed in the turn Dexter took, but I never got mad, I just got bored and left.

Re: Jumped the Shark

when they only make me mad, I move on.

Me too, sandi. I cant see the point in watching a show that continues to give me the poops.

Re: Jumped the Shark

and Ron Perlman in SoA.

It was beautifully done, though. It was a long time coming, you knew by the conversation prior to the event that it's going to happen, and yet when it happens the shock still occurs. Each watch hasn't lessened the impact.

Speaking of SoA, what confuses me more than watching a show that you absolutely hate is to stop watching it and still bang on in its message board about how horrible the show is. I saw that on the SoA board, and I honestly wonder why people bother. You have stopped wasting your time and energy on the show, but it's still worth typing out the same thing each new episode?

I want to make a movie where Helen Keller can see dead people. It's called 'The Fourth Sense'

Re: Jumped the Shark

Oh the kill of Clay was great, but it was the fridging of Ron all season that annoyed me. I think he and Sutter had a falling out so Sutter just shoved him out the back to punish him. That's rude.

Re: Jumped the Shark

I've heard so many rumours about Sutter and his apparent "falling out" with actors and his apparent ego that I really don't pay them much mind.

Plus, Ron got some amazing material in series six: from showing his loyalty to the club to the very last moment, the scene where he interrupts the preacher's service, the scene where he needs to get himself protection inside (which further complicates relations next series), the scene with Otto in the infirmary, and all the shît he took from Toric... All of that material was perfectly acted and felt reasonably realistic in the evolution of Clay's character.

Maybe I'm blinded by bias.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Ha. The scene with the preacher was pure gold. I love Ron Perlman.

Re: Jumped the Shark

My only problem with SOA was the sappy ending. It was like the other guys in the club suddenly had nothing to say or do. Based on how they were in the beginning, I thought they'd be more enraged and animated about the stuff Jax and hi mom were doing.

I guess I was looking for more of an action packed and exciting end. But I lked the way they handled CLay and I also loved Ron Perlman. I'm still hoping for a Hellboy 3. Lol

Re: Jumped the Shark

The ending was woeful, wasnt it, and the horrific cgi at the very end still has me laughing.

Re: Jumped the Shark

This was me this season too, dcorriere.

I'll also add that a lot of my friends enjoyed this season, and I continued watching because, for me, the discussion is half the fun...and that is never a let down.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Upon more thought I realized that I haven't always hung in there. I watched Once Upon A Time. Because I was on the late show with this one I had to binge it on Netflix for the first 4 seasons. The first 3 I found quaint and entertaining. Escapism when I needed a little levity. (I always watched it after an episode of Mr.Robit) sorely needed after a thorough mind *beep* As you can see my taste in shows are all over the place. Anywho, season 4 of OUAT was kind if cheesy, and by season 5 and 6 they we're phoning it in. Actors, writers, the whole scooby gang. It seemed everybody gave up. By season 7 I stuck to my convictions of commitment and knowing it was the final season I figured I could last a few more episodes to see how it all came together. But,alas,I couldn't do it. I dumped that stupid show. Because they didnt keep there commitment to me. To remain watchable. By the time I gave up, having a tooth pulled without novocain seem preferable.

Re: Jumped the Shark

I agree with what you are saying, but they are currently on season 6 of OUAT.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Two seasons in a row for me. :(

Re: Jumped the Shark

Same here. I was totally "involved" with season 1. I mean I watched the new episode several times the week that it came out, I would check messages boards to discuss new findings with people, and I would keep up with news articles about the show.

I haven't had an season since that has captured me. Seasons 2 through 4 were good but nothing compared to season 1. Seasons 5-6 have been hard to keep up with. I don't know why, but I'm wondering if I should keep going with the show. It just doesn't "capture" me anymore.

Re: Jumped the Shark

Jumped the shark? It fúcking 69'd the shark and reverse cowboy fúcked the shark!
