Classic Film : It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

This was quite silly fun.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Too manic for me, I'm afraid. I like my humor a little more subtle.

You'll appreciate it once you're reprogrammed!

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

I'm programmed to self destruct and exterminate all human life if anyone touches my circuitry.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Good thing I can do it by a remote and far from danger.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Nowhere is far enough from the devastation that will ensue! A chain reaction will occur that will end all life on Earth.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Ah well darn it!

I had a friend from Essex who hated this movie as well. Perhaps it's just too silly for British tastes.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

People from Essex have very good taste…

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

I primarily have a dry sense of humour and strongly dislike things like slapstack. But this was fun in a goofy and silly ways. I think part of it was that they had such an extensively brilliant cast in this. Small appearances, but so many.

"Basil Fawlty" was in a "remake" (that term gets bandied about and in dispute ) but somewhat similar called Rat Race I believe.

I prefer subtle humour most of the time, understated. This was still a cute little ditty.

Very silly (and a tad too long) but still fun. The all star cast is really overwhelming too (The Three Stooges even manage to make a brief appearance, if you look quick enough!) The interplay between Jonathan Winters' dumb-but-lovable truck driver character and the sleazy, underhanded Phil Silvers' character is hilarious. Terry-Thomas, the gap-toothed British actor, is a hoot as well.

It was remade (sort of) in 1980 as Midnight Madness, a movie about an all night scavenger hunt in Los Angeles that stars Michael J Fox (his first film), David Naughton (An American Werewolf in London), Stephen Furst (Animal House) and Eddie Deezen.

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

It was also remade as Rat race

Re: It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Never heard of that one. I did enjoy Midnight Madness though. It bombed at the box office when it was first released but has since become a cult classic.
