Thomas Kretschmann : It's sad that he has never been nominated for an oscar for playing a nazi capt.

It's sad that he has never been nominated for an oscar for playing a nazi capt.

Thomas has played a leading nazi captain in more movies then actor Christoph Waltz but hasnt gotten nominated for hardly anything for his work. Christoph comes over to america and gets nominated for everything! Doesn't seem right to me at all. Plus I think Thomas is a much better actor then him. Most oscar winners are overated most of the time nowadays it seems. I had to wait forever for Gary Oldman to finally be nominated an win. Maybe someday it could happen for Thomas.

Most of the movies he has done haven't been great critical hits. Just looking at his IMDB page and he seems almost type cast. Christoph Waltz has played major roles in major movies, and has more variety on his film resume.

I hope he gets some kind of critical praise with Penny Dreadful city of angels. At least he is not a Nazi in that. Description says he plays a rich aristocrat. Maybe he can get nominated for some tv awards for it?I know the first Penny Dreadful was nominated. I know that his list of movies over here arent reviewed very well. But I think he is a great actor he just seems to get the not so great roles? I dont understand why that is? I wish he was praised more like Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender. Thomas was recognised for a few things he has done that people have seen but they are not american films? Grimm love and a few other roles? He should have gotten praise for his work in the pianist even though it was smaller part. I dont understand why he wants to usually play a nazi captain all the time though you think he would be tired of it. I know he has played different roles in Germany and italy though at least. It's a shame he didn't get any kind of recognition for Stalingrad the 1993 version.

I'm sure he would love to branch out but when you are a working actor, you have to take what you can get. World War 2 is still a popular period in film and his German background and experience playing these characters lends him to these roles.
