Borat Subsequent Moviefilm : Is this sequel really warranted?

Is this sequel really warranted?

Watching the first movie, I thought this kind of undercover comedy was fresh and even shocking. It didn't matter that Cohen was a bit overzealous in trying to get a reaction out of his victims. The result was so worth it.

Watching the sequel, however, I couldn't help but feel Cohen's intentions were hanging over the production like a wet cloth, perhaps for the simple reason that one is used to it all by now. You know the magic trick already. In the first movie it all seemed so natural and effortless, as though a crazy Kazakhstani journalist really had been allowed to wreak havoc on polite society in America. Now Cohen seems to play it a lot safer, which is very disappointing to me.

Besides, if this movie was primarily a way for Cohen to shock people into not voting for Trump, it seems downright useless considering none of it is as weird as the stuff we've already seen in the media and YouTube over the last few years.

Maybe I'm just desensitized, but I hope I'm not alone in feeling this.

What say you, folks?
