Music General : Is Elvis underrated?

Is Elvis underrated?

In terms of being perceived as having genuine music genius ability?

I feel like the goats are seen as the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the who, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd etc. Not sure Elvis ever gets a mention against these guys.

Also I think I might have made this exact same topic a few weeks ago but I'm running with it

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

Elvis in black leather is giving the gimp's board at least a week of discussion!

Greetings. I arrived on Planet Earth from Planet Zambodia 333 years ago to rule Bongoland, as Prince of the Mongos

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

Elvis may not be a great singer, if one can make a measure of this, but what he had was his own style and uniqueness and he knew how to deliver.

He was popular, so not under-rated in the public eye, but the mass public isn't always the best indicator of what is good taste. Elvis represented his roots and culture and he was basically a white man with a black man's soul.

I don't feel though that this was something that gave him his boost because he was white either, (many black artists were famous and popular too), it was also because of his handsome looks and charismatic presence. He was just a well-rounded package and more importantly, he was loved growing up. This amounts to so very much as well.

Norman! What did you put in my tea?

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

I think he was a great singer, and this performance in his final stages is one of the most emotive pieces of art ever

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

It's because he's singing directly to the audience, and they don't even know it. They are "my love".

That's what he always sounds like though.

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

Yes, because of the song lyrics, which bring home the fragility of his ego.

He's dying. He probably can feel his own demise is coming sooner rather than later. He's been the biggest star on planet earth for a generation, yet he still doesn't believe he's worthy of anybody's love. He's eating himself to death because of that self-loathing. He's serenading the audience with a song that shows he hopes they can still love him despite the tragedies that the passage of time (and his own self-loathing) have inflicted upon him.

You're not feeling emotional because of his voice. You have subconsciously tapped into what's actually going on on that stage. It's heartbreaking. It's an extremely poignant moment that should be a lesson to anyone who's trying to get validation through fame.

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

Extremely well written and I almost feel like I've been brain raped. I would accuse you of being high, but it's not your bag.

But there's no probability about it. He's shaking, he's dying.

Have you read about the guy who 'looked after him'? Seems he was a bit of a cunt…

I would accuse you of being high,
Why?

Have you read about the guy who 'looked after him'?
No. Like I said somewhere else, I'm not an Elvis fan. I appreciate his greatness, but don't really feel compelled to learn about him.

I think everything worth learning is being displayed on that stage.

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

You spelt overrated incorrectly.

You're just trolling. We know your game.

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

I'm not trolling, I prefer Jerry Lee Lewis.

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

I'm not an Elvis fan. I prefer many other musicians. I think the point here is about greatness. Elvis inspired a whole generation of musicians. His legacy endures. He makes new fans every day, yet he's dead.

Is Elvis bigger than any other musician, or group? In my opinion, yes. He's a cult.

He's the only artist who's expected to rise from the dead one day.

That is true.

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

Surprised you don't like Elvis but tbh I think this is the only time I've disagreed with you on anything 😂.

What about Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochran?

Other creators of rock n roll

Ps - sid vicious cover of Cochran LOL

Re: Is Elvis underrated?

I tried really hard to impress at the WA academy of performing arts because that's what I saw. That's why I went for the job that's available in Perth, and I've been there ever since.
