Dustin Hoffman : I miss the old Dustin Hoffman

I miss the old Dustin Hoffman

Don't get me wrong, Hoffman is still a great actor. However, the quality of his roles and the films he appears in has decreased tremendously. Back in the day, Hoffman was regularly turning out truly legendary performances in films like The Graduate, Rain Man, Midnight Cowboy, Kramer vs Kramer, Tootsie, Papillon, All the President's Men, Marathon Man, etc. Other than Robert De Niro, I'm not sure we've ever seen such a drop in quality from an actor.

The reason I'm starting this thread, however, is because I just started up a YouTube channel called CinemAddix and we recently uploaded a video called "Top 10 Craziest Method Actors" which includes Dustin Hoffman. I'm trying to get my channel to grow so I'd greatly appreciate it if y'all could check it out! If you enjoy it, be sure to subscribe. If you don't, any constructive criticism is welcomed. Thanks so much for your support!

Re: I miss the old Dustin Hoffman

I completely agree. To a point. Young Dustin made some mighty early films with equally mighty acting in them. He had a run starting with The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, Little Big Man, Straw Dogs, Papillon, Lenny, All The President's Men and Marathon Man. This is happened in his first 10 years! This is the Dustin I remember with affection as I watched these growing up. Saying that he still made Kramer v Kramer, Tootsie and peaked with Rain Man. After that it doesn't matter because of what's gone before. Parts would obviously ac 5b4 corded to age.
You cannot compare him to De Niro, as he's completey shat all over his legacy with truly dreadful films (like 3 a year!) to pay off all his investments. De Niro has become a joke unlike Dustin or even Pacino.
