Wolf Creek : I hate when all the tension comes from characters being stupid

I hate when all the tension comes from characters being stupid

There's no excuse for the girls not getting away. First, kill him when you have the chance - HUGE opportunity blown.

Then, lose him when you have the vehicle. How hard could it have been in the dark to turn off the lights and 'vanish'?

Third, go anyplace but BACK to his place. There's no *beep* way he'd find you if you don't follow the road.

Finally, when Liz gets to his place she hangs around watching home movies when she TOLD Kristy to leave if she wasn't back in five minutes. What is she dallying for?

All those videos tell us is that he's done this before - which we already know - and that he disabled their car - which we could just assume. It doesn't explain their watches stopping though. I guess the allusions to lightning striking, meteors, UFOs and the eclipse are meant to suggest Mick is like a force of nature and who knows where/when/why he strikes. But it doesn't explain the watches.

And how does she not see him in the car? Stupid.

Re: I hate when all the tension comes from characters being stupid

The back of the car moment was my least favourite...I can see why they did it, classic horror scare after all....but it breaks the reality of watching when you're like 'how did he know out of all the cars there she'd go to that one so picked that one to wait in'.

I can deal with a few stupid decisions in a horror film. You can put it down to panic and, afterall, if they always made the smart move, there'd be no film cos they'd get away within five minutes.

However, what sort of made me sigh with this one is that the short haired girl was so strong in some parts. It was really refreshing to see a strong, determined female in lower budget horror, who made some actually brave choices and didn't have to scream or be naked doing it. And then, that's shattered by some silly moments written for her.

She should have survived based on her earlier performance, so it kind of feels odd when she doesn't...and it was like they had to come up with silly choices for her that went against her character shown so far to construct her downfall....instead of letting her live instead of the guy.

~ I hardly looked at his face. His knees were what I wished to see. ~

Re: I hate when all the tension comes from characters being stupid

She should have smashed his head in with the butt of the rifle when he was diwn or slit his throat with his big knife..classic stupid mistakes. Putting his car over the cliff..dumb. best back up and keep going. They left themselves out in the open again, defenseless. Then Liz goes back to his place and wastes time watching movies...

Yeah! Honestly, you have him shot, just beat his (bleeping!) skull in with whatever you can find, until there's nothing left!

Plus, I love how he gets shot in the neck (which would probably have hit the carotid artery and killed him!) and is perfectly fine!
