I WIN the prize for the MOST UNSOLVABLE thread in IMDb history!!!…

I saw this sometime between the years of 1984 and the spring of 93. Most-likely this was 1984 - 7. I believe it was probably brand-new when it aired on network US tv during prime-time. While it could have possibly been a theatrical production its values looked more like a tv production. I remember it having an ultramodern look and feel to it. I'm sure because of the vocoder that it was likely a science-fiction film and might or might not have also been post-apocalyptic. Again, I'm not sure if the chase scene is or isn't from the same feature.

Two people are being interrogated by a group of people who are all dressed-up and disguised in black and red outfits with hoods and masks. The interrogation scene was done in a dark circular metallic room as I recall. Their leader speaks into a microphone that disguises his voice by using an old vintage classic analog hardware vocoder which makes his voice sound similar to the Cylon Centurions from the original Battlestar Galactica.

There may or may not also have been a scene involving a pickup being chased by (a) motorcycle/s, or a motorcycle being chased by a pickup. There's a roadway mountain tunnel entrance in this scene.

Here are the so far discarded answers:

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Couldn't be "V" or the series.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Thanks! I kept forgetting to include that as not being it.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

whats a vocoder?

Re: Searching for years, decades…

It's an electronic device that distorts the human voice and makes it sound robotic and gurgly. Often used by R&B artists, and to make people sound like robots.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

The (musical) device that singers and voice-actors use if they need to sound like a talking or singing robot or computer. It's what the voice-actor Mr. Michael Santiago used to make his voice for the Cylon Centurions in the original-series version of 'Battlestar Galactica' (1978-9).

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Thank you very-much for your suggestions! However, it would be none of those three as the vocoder (while invented in 1928) wasn't used as a musical or film/tv application until the late 60s, early 70s period (this by itself eliminates 1). And the manufacturers of the one I heard didn't start production until 1975 (which eliminates the other two) and afterwards.

Also I highly doubt that The New Avengers (1976) would've been shown on American network tv during prime-time. That would be more of a WTTW or small channel thing here in the States.

Do feel free to give me other suggestions as long as there between the years of 1975 and 1993. Better still between 1983 and 1993 with between 1983 and 1987 being the best and most-likely. Thanks again!!

Re: Searching for years, decades…

If you know the manufacturer and model of said vocoder why not include it in your description? May help narrow things down.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

I used to include that but I don't think most here would know such things.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

whats a vocoder?

I can only answer that with "Zapp & Roger"

Don't put the devil in the picture, cause' the religious groups won't wanna see it.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

No, that's a talk-box. A vocoder is what the Cylons from the original 'Battlestar Galactica', Soundwave from 'The Transformers', Kraftwerk, Herbie Hancock and Neil Young used on 'Trans'.

I'll let you know when I come-up with a new signature, .

I stand corrected and concede that I have been misinformed for many years.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

"Zardoz"

"Quintet"

"Satanic Rites of Dracula"

"Tales from the Crypt"

Draft Young Republicans

The End

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Zardoz,no. Also no to both Satanic Rites of Dracula and Tales from the Crypt. I'm sure this was science-fiction and not supernatural. The supernatural has no need for a vocoder. Not sure about Quintet.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Just to let you know...I've added Quintet to my queue. I'll let you know once I've watched it...

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

Re: Searching for years, decades…

This is easy. You're just confusing some details.

Here are pictures (I'm only going to provide one link to each since I'm not INSANE):

The red and black masks:
http://www.empireonline.com/images/uploaded/greatest-star-wars-charact ers-imperial-guards.jpg

This guy has a voice modulator (and you'll notice a circular structure):
http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/18300000/Star-Wars-Episode-VI-R eturn-Of-The-Jedi-Darth-Vader-darth-vader-18356369-500-312.jpg

Here's another circular structure:

So, as you can see, I have solved the mystery. It's Return of the Jedi. Was this one where you were offering $100? I hope so because I could use the cash.

Please add 'SOLVED' to the subject.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

No, I looked on Google Images and it just doesn't seem to match. Again I'm sure what I'm looking for is science-fiction and doesn't have any supernatural elements. But thanks anyway!

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Sorry if someone suggested this, it's a wild guess. I don't remember red and black, but a vocoder maybe.
Could it have been The Adventure of Buckaroo Bonzai Across the 8th demnsion? From 1984 with Peter Weller & John Lithgow?
Sorry, I'm not sure how to put the link in here, but towards the beginning of the movie he drives his car through a mountain breaking the 8th dimension and it triggers an alien invasion. They can only be heard in human voices if you have the formula or usually through a vocoder I think. Peter Weller is Buckaroo, he plays a rocket scientist, comic book hero, brain surgeon, inventor, etc. was all over TV around that time but I'm not sure if it was basic. I know HBO showed it tons. Hope that at least helps eliminate one for ya!!

I've seen that and am pretty sure that's not it. However, I'll give it another look. Thanks!!

No problem. Like I said, a wild shot!!! Good luck!

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Okay here is another very long shot, but if I remember right this might be your movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091276/

Invaders from Mars (1986)

Or as I was almost a 16 year old I probably was to fascinated with the love of my life sitting next to me in the theater. lol

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Here's Invaders From Mars on YouTube in its entirety. I took a quick look through the movie, didn't see things resembling what the OP was talking about, but it looks like an interesting sci-fi time-killer of a movie just the same:

Re: Searching for years, decades…

No, I watched that a couple years age. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Re: Searching for years, decades…

wild guess ---

The Star Chamber [1983]

"Oh God, but I do love being king!"

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Damn, with that title I was hoping you might have found it. I looked at Google Images and there's nothing of people dressed up in black and red. Nor any mention on the board of the film of anyone using a vocoder or voice-synthesizer. But thanks nonetheless as that eliminates another movie.

I don't know what's a sig. line? Can't think of one! Can you tell me what one is?

Re: Searching for years, decades…

I think your chase scene is the terminator, no Idea where your red and black interrogation thing is from though sorry.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Thanks, but it wasn't The Terminator as that happens at nighttime and this happened in daylight.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

The room you describe sounds like the one in Brazil's interrogation scene. There are no hooded figures but there is a man wearing a mask. Here's a link.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Thanks, but it's neither of those two ['Starlost' (Canadian and takes place on a spaceship, not on Earth) recycled episodes or 'Quatermass' which is British. This is American and the motorcycle scene was definitely filmed in America (provided they're actually one-and-the-same.]

tunnel entrance?

Re: Tunnel entrance?…

Yes, it does look somewhat similar to the Griffiths Park tunnel opening. But according to what I read only two movies were filmed there, Back to the Future II and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. So it must be another similar tunnel entrance elsewhere in California or somewhere in the Southwestern US. Thanks!!

Long shot, but maybe, The Atlantis Interceptors.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

I checked both Google Images and YouTube. Unfortunately, it wasn't it. However thanks as that eliminates another film from possible answers.

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Maybe you could explain some more? You seem really interested in identifying this movie, was it something that really obsessed you? Was it a scene or the association with a scene?

I've already mentioned all that I can recall...

Re: Searching for years, decades…

I meant the obsession. It seems to be really imperative . . .

Re: Searching for years, decades…

Ever since 'Battlestar Galactica' I've been obsessed with vocoders. This had the same-sounding vocoder sound in it.
